Part of modern design is feel, how sleek do things appear. How satisfying is the button to push?

NOMOS Glashütte’s Club Sport Worldtimer captures the essence of this modern design idea but incorporates classical watching. The Worldtimer is quite the lauded complication, famously delivered across collections & brands.

Nomos delivers their take on this without sacrificing what makes the Neomatik so special. Part of its charms as an automatic calibre is its slim profile. Adding the 24 hour city disc without adding a dramatic amount of depth is some accomplishment.

The Year of the Goat. In modern vernacular, this release should go down particularly well. The Chinese Zodiac see the totem animal being represented by a Goat for their new year.

IWC Schaffhausen continue to mark this occasions with relevant watches. For the Goat, we see the 41mm Pilot Chronograph imbued with a very distinct layout. A Gold sunburst dial carries the usual day/date apertures but the date is executed with the Chinese character for Goat in place of the 8; a very elegant detail indeed. A black bezel contrasts against a titanium case.

The real beauty lies in the unseen. The rotor is beautifully decorated to show a herd of three goats reminiscent of decoration seen well into China’s storied past. The nature of the rotor lends itself to balance - a fundamental theme within the Chinese canon.

As unique & emblematic as its inspiration, Singapore holds a special place in both geopolitics, world capital & luxury. A powerhouse beyond its size, it seems appropriate that the country’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid, symbolises resilience, boldness and innovation. As timing would have it, the Singapore Grand Prix was this weekend.

The latest race ready release from carries a striking purple dial inspired by Singapore’s national flower complemented by the signature PETRONAS green accents, the watch celebrates IWC’s longstanding partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, established in 2013.

Purple has long been associated as a regal colour. Be it fun, or a personal dose of adrenaline, the new Pilot’s series offer something to get everyone’s heart beating a little faster.

Intrepid. The human condition; a desire to be curious, leading to adventure without & within. The frogmen of mid 19th Century warfare had to be intrepid at heart, accepting a mission that bore no certainty. This spirit is imbued into Panerai.

Modern Panerai is a luxury brand, let us be clear but it is still governed by heritage. Every story enjoys a little embellishment, yet product is fundamentally field tested. They are not using parts of historic planes or boats; Panerai is history.

With that, the 42mm Luminor is intentionally designed to be a gateway drug, and the DLC version ticks the box best for us. Stealthy, matte DLC coating coupled with a matte blue dial & painted numerals evoke the Panerai of the late nineties. A smaller case hits that sweet spot, and automatic too! What’s not to love.

Mechanical Santos-Dumont models in the large size case typically hit the proverbial high notes for Cartier Official. The Santos-Dumont de Cartier was introduced to evolve the previously only precious metal models into a collection in its own right, delivered in steel & bi-metal watches.

Truer to the 1904 original than its sibling, the cases are intentionally slim and delicate, elegant yet pronounced in case design. Cartier’s distinct Roman Numerals and minute tracks are consistent. The majority of the collection is quartz with some exceptions.

This particular model, however, is a rule breaker. You’ll find a Platinum edition with green lacquer in a limited series but this version is non limited, with a cubist styled dial in steel with black lacquer. Hand wound and quite beautiful.

Incorporating a few industry skills from the mechanised movement to the painted lacquer evokes a certain romanticism while steel makes it durable for daily wear, quite fitting for your internal dandy. Discover more Cartier in-store only, experience is everything.

October is a revival month for Cartier Official. Originally launched in 2002, the Roadster is roaring back into action. Like all true racing icons, the silhouette stays true to the lineage but subtle tweaks beneath the bonnet & a little more aerodynamics have been reworked bringing the model into play for the 2026/27 Season.

The new series will only be offered in medium & large model to begin with. Offered in full Yellow Gold, Bi-Colour & Steel variants -all are offered with Cartier’s classic numeral track and opaline dials save for a striking blue variant.

The original Roadster was one of the first watches to deliver a quick change strap system coming equipped with both straps as standard. The new models offer the same versatility.

The level of depth on the dial is not done justice in photos, applied indices play beautifully in light. Cartier has utilised this tonneau case shape for decades but the Roadster marries the expected elegance with a more robust impact.

There seems like a nice trend has appeared of not convoluting new releases & novelties in an often over stimulating fashion. Panerai’s continued reframing enjoys a very positive delivery in the new 42mm Luminor models.

By new, let’s functionally be clear; a 42mm, painted dial “throwback” Luminor but with an automatic movement is entirely different to what came before. It’s not a base model nor is it an open caseback totem piece. These are great, gateway watches in very, very good colourways.

Panerai’s distinctiveness lies in the Luminor case & clarity of view, making it once the most modded design ever made. Here you retain all the fan favourite elements, then….well, make it fun!

The black DLC case will no doubt be an easy hit but the beige textile with matching numerals is our favourite, hitting all the retro notes. No one except maybe the testing instruments are going 500m down but given that it is still fundamentally a crown lever that is securing the case - the internal rebuild must be applauded.

Three new models only. Discover them October onwards in-store, Florentine flood myths aside, from 1993 to today, Panerai is relatively young - finding its modern footprint as all good brands do & these are a wonderful move in a continued right direction.

A lot is expected from a high end watch today. The brand must carry cache, appreciation within the industry but especially from fellow enthusiasts. How it makes you feel by default, opinion & expectation from others, often trumps how it makes you feel alone.

All marketing & market capture aside, watch brands still need to make watches & when the biggest brands needed to power their watches, be it a Tank, Royal Oak, Nautilus and many, many more….they turned to Jaeger-LeCoultre.

The sheer level of innovation in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s back catalogue is simply unreal & almost as a rule, if a clever element works within high watchmaking, if inevitably filters down into their most accessible watches.

We all recognise a classical calendar layout. Day, Date, Moonphase & Month - cute little throwback to vintage JLC with the red font in the day/month apertures. Now, the cool bit - the Amvox Tourbillon in the Aston Martin affiliated series utilised a clever feature by where the Tourbillon carriage was never permanently covered by any one hand for a long period of time.

Minutes & hours were easy enough but when you have the date circling the dial, it will invariably sit over this area at some point. Not if you are the Grande Maison. A jumping or “sautante” mechanism was built so the date jumps over to to its next position.

As this works so beautifully, the same mechanism filters down into this Master Calendar - in steel & in gold. Think on the mathematics, and working implications ensuring all the calendar elements, including phases of the moon work together. Imagine the joy at succeeding to build this calibre & know it will be on someone’s wrist.

You the owner know someone put this together with such skill, with pure intention as there little necessity here. This is feeling in watchmaking.

In the much cited period drama, Back to the Future, Doc is noted for his understanding of Gauss, a unit of measurement for magnetic flux density. Well….he is not but we have your attention.

At its time, the most anti-magnetic watch ever made, the Ingenieur’s ingenious soft iron casing - engineered by engineers for engineers, prevented their mechanical watches from being affected by the natural magnetic fields created by the machinery in use.

Born in a time where invention was borne of necessity, IWC Schaffhausen’s Ingenieur model was also designed by Gerald Genta. His design language lay in opening up the nuts & bolts, portholes into the manufacturing process.
