Amethyst, one of the birthstone of February.
Associated with clarity, protection, and calmness. Ancient Greeks and Romans believed that wearing amethyst or drinking from goblets encrusted with it would prevent them from becoming drunk (if anyone tries this, do let me know how you get on!)
It is also traditionally given to celebrate the 6th wedding anniversary.
