[] CHANGE [] Loves it has been a minute! If you follow my stories you'll know I have some massive life changes on the horizon. I'm expecting baby boy number 3 in January AND moving further out of London into a home that requires complete refurbishment... All at the same time! ๐Ÿ˜…

This had led me to the difficult decision to step down from my position as co-host I cannot dedicate the time and energy that it takes to be at the forefront of this movement and you all deserve the very best content creators, at the top of their game.

My beautiful friend and co-host Sharmon has agreed to carry the torch, continuing to host the SFC and has drafted in some wonderful new co-hosts to support her - .au &

I know these wonderfully talented folk are going to inject a new lease of life into the SFC and take it to new heights and I'm super excited to see where this goes!

The next is kicking off on November 1st - Yes! In 3 days! Please continue to show your support to the challenge, gratitude to Sharmon for taking it on and welcome in the wonderful new co-hosts.

A massive shout out to the original founders Amy & Nicole . Without them the Slow Fashion Challenge wouldn't exist!

I'll still be lurking in my stories so come say Hi! But life .london is largely on pause for the foreseeable. I'll be taking stock of life in Spring and seeing what the plans for my future here look like.

Please stick around for imminent baby and house madness and say Hi in comments below... I've missed my insta community โค๏ธ

[] ANTI-CHILD LABOUR DAY [] Each year in June, the International Labour Organization commemorates the World Day Against Child Labour.

Child labour can unfortunately be found at all stages of the supply chain in the fashion and textile industry. From cotton harvesting and yarn spinning to the actual production stage in garment factories.

Poverty is often a driving force behind child labour. When parents and adult family members earn very little, children are used to help meet a familys needs.

Over the years progress has been made in reducing child labour but if course there is still much work to be done.

As conscious consumers, we can make sure that we are buying from fashion brands that donโ€™t use child labour by educating ourselves and checking that companies have a fully transparent supply chain. If they do not, how can they possibly be sure that child labour isn't used in the production of their clothing?

The following brands are recommended by goodmakertales.com as being free from child labour:

1. : innovative nature based active wear.
2. : climate neutral certified clothing.
3. : ethical mens clothing.
4. : cruelty free clothing. Ethical. Eco. No nasties.
5. : the original ethical fashion brand since 1988.

Do you know any brands free from child labour? Please share them on the comments below.

[] DIY LOVE [] I come from a family of DIY-ers. They're skilled, resourceful and creative and they've passed all of those skills onto me and I use them daily. Often to the amazement of my husband and sometimes the bemusment; generally bemused by my hoarding tendencies that (nearly always) come up trumps down the line.

Being handy often saves money and resources. Our ancestors really knew how to make the most of what they had, so many of us have lost that now, and it really is to our detriment. Not only are we losing skills but we're wasting resources at an alarming rate.

We can of course turn things around. A few basic sewing skills can extend the life of our clothes and accessories and that really can have big impact.

[] SUMMER STYLE [] I love summer, it's my season. I'm a summer baby, born in August and I thrive in the heat. The cold is not for me so living in England is a challenge for me for four at least 80% of the year.

Summer style should be light flowing dresses, vests, skirts and shorts but all too often I'm carrying a scarf, poncho, umbrella and a hat because we really can have 3 seasons in one day here... And now I'm doing that very British thing of talking about the weather too much, but it's relevant right, it dictates my summer style! ๐Ÿ˜…

I scrolled through my photos from June - September 2023 and put together a 'summer dump', you'll see an array of layers and not all look like summer but they were! Far too many wraps, jackets, jumpers and blankets are featured.

My wardrobe is about 70% preloved 10% handmade (thanks Mum!) and 20% high street/designer fashion, worn slow. Not nearly enough of it is what you'd generally associate with summer but this is England so... โ˜”

I can't live without scarves, even in summer, drafty necks are a big no for me. What summer accessory cat you be without?

[] LONG LOVED [] If you've been around here for a while you will have seen this much-loved cardigan before. This piece has now featured 4 times on the which makes it a perfect entry for todays prompt of 'long loved'.

I am a hopeless romantic and love a good story behind a piece, especially if it's made it's way to me via friends or family.

My Mum made me this cardigan after years of pestering her to let me have her original one which she knitted in the late 70's (see Mums original grey and red version in pics). She made 2 identical (slightly different colour variations) one for her and one for her sister. My mum's original lives on but she doesn't wear it which is a crime against fashion and my love for the original cardigan.

Now, I know Ms made me my own which, I'm truely grateful for but don't we all think she should donate me her original too so her talents can see the light of day?

Please vote in the comments below. (I'll be using your votes to present a case to get so I can aquire original cardi ๐Ÿ˜œ) **posted automatically from Instagram **

[] INTRO [] Welcome to day 1 of the . I'm Lu and I make up 1 half of the Slow Fashion team here along with my awesome co-host

Today's prompt is an opportunity to get to know each other - lets get personal and and learn a little more about what connects us beyond slow fashion.

I'm a full time Mama to 2 boys, Alex 9 and Seb 6 (I'm hosting Seb's birthday party at home today). I'm wife to Mike, we've been married 12 years but together for 25 (fiercely proud), we started dating at 15. We home educate our sons which, is a gift and a privilege that I'm grateful for everyday.

I was born in August, I'm a Leo.

I come from a working class background both my parents are born and bred Londoners. I'm 1 of 4 siblings, I've an older sister, brother and 1 younger brother.

I was born in North London in the early 80's and have moved between the Essex and North East London border my whole life. There's no place like home.

My professional background is in luxury jewellery, I started my career as an assistant buyer on the jewellery desk of a TV shopping channel and moved onto a gold and diamond importers in Hatton Garden where I stated to understand the environmental and humanitarian damage of gold and diamond mining. Over the years I've learnt how all of this is all directly linked to colonisation with the Global North extracting resources and exploiting labour from the Global South, colonialism is alive and kicking folks but not many people want to discuss this uncomfortable truth. Especially white people who are benefiting from it.

I launched ReAdorn in 2008 in response to what I had learnt about the luxury jewellery industry. I didn't feel I could make a positive change in the industry from the position I held so I set out to make change on my own.

I run an upcycling initiative with fellow designers around the world called .

I love skill sharing and you'll find me popping up and hosting jewellery upcycling workshops all over Essex and London.

Tell me something about you in the comments below โฌ‡๏ธ

[] DRUM CON [] Loves! I'm only bloody doing an in person event next weekend, it has been SO long since I took myself and my jewels out to a show but this was one I couldn't say no to...

Drum con is open to all who drum, are interested in drumming, have been drumming for eons, or simply want to know more.

Founder and all round awesome human (Melonie) has been inspired by the magic that happens when people come together to drum, Melonie was drawn to bring people together all in the name of drumming, and I am here for it!

Those of you who follow my stories will have seen me making a new type of product out of scrap animal hide donated to me by one of my beautiful friends .village. These mini drums have been a joy to learn to make, the birthing process is super special and every single one turns out different, woven with so much love, magick and intention. They are of course destined for jewellery pieces but LOOK how cute they are!

If you know me personally you'll know that Mike is a drummer, we have an array of drums scattered around our house that you'll catch us all playing whenever the mood takes us (the boys too!) The sweet vibrations of drums have been played by our ancestors for eons and I love how this tradition remains strong today.

What to expect:
A programme of talks, performances and workshops to get your inner beat moving. Stalls sharing their wares. Food and drinks. Music. An attendance of likeminded people all into or interested in drumming. A raffle with awesome prizes!!

[] HAPPY NEW YEAR [] Spring is springing! Ostara marks the New Year for me, honoring springs warmth, light from the sun and the reawakening of the Earth. The Gregorian calendar celebration of Jan 1st makes very little sense to my bodies natural rhythms, I'm deep in hibernation mode in Jan and not in any way ready to set goals and make plans for the year ahead. So I don't, until now...

So a little update, I've been quietly emerging, slowly in the background, working on a few custom pieces here and there which, you will have seen if you follow my stories. I've been setting intentions to be free of tension and move through life to my highest joy and excitement and its is a wonderful place to be emerging from.

The boys and I have found a wonderful flow through our weeks, coming together, learning and making sure all of our needs are being met, we're finding our way in ever shifting sands adjusting as needed.

I'm birthing on a beautiful new collection of drum eartings and necklaces made from raw hide scraps donated to me from my beautiful friend .village I'll be selling my first pieces at a Drumming convention in April - more details to follow!

Swipe through my photo reel for a glimpse at the past couple of months -
1) me going out for cacao, kirtan and ecstatic dance
2) some of my first tiny drums
3) my 3 loves and I
4) custom rework
5) my dad, alex and I
6) custom glasses chain
7) eggs box bowls the boys made
8) forest moss
9) alice
10) beach

So wonderful ones, I'm waking up with our beautiful planet and hope to be showing up here a little more now. How are you? What's occurring? I've missed chewing the fat with you all ๐Ÿ’—
