People often assume Kimjoux is just a made-up name.

They are not wrong.

It came from the worlds that shaped me. Vietnam and UK. East and West. The places we’ve lived, the people we’ve met, and the experiences we carry with us.

The older I get, the more I realise that most of us are shaped by more than one place, more than one culture, and more than one chapter of life.

Kimjoux became a reflection of that.

A name, and a jewellery house, built between worlds.

I’ve realised the pieces I travel with are rarely the most extravagant ones. They’re the pieces that have earned their place through wear, memories and versatility.

Someone asked me how to make sure a commission feels meaningful and not just expensive. I think about this question a lot, because expensive is easy. Meaningful takes a different starting point entirely.

The answer is not in the stone. It is not in the budget. It is in the question I ask at the very beginning of every commission: what do you need this piece to do for you? Not what do you want it to look like. What do you need it to mean.

When that question has a real answer, everything else follows. The stone, the structure, the detail that nobody else will catch. It all becomes deliberate rather than decorative.

Tell us what it needs to mean. That is where we begin.

Most clients come in with a reference. I love that. Here is why I never start there.

A reference tells me something real - your instincts, what keeps drawing your eye. But the piece I am designing will be with you for decades, and it needs to feel like you. Not like the version of you that was scrolling late on a Tuesday.

So my first question is always about the person, not the piece. Once I understand who she is and what this commission needs to mark, the reference becomes genuinely useful. A starting point rather than a finish line.

Your saved folder tells me where you have been looking. The conversation tells me who you are. Bring both.

A few people asked what jewellery I bring on holiday, so here we are.

The pieces that come with me every time are usually the ones I wear without thinking. They are versatile, practical and perfectly my style.

That's probably why they made it into the suitcase in the first place.

There is something about this city I keep coming back to when I am designing. Fascinating history behind the architecture, the grand facade, and sometimes a dramatic change in style. It is the feeling that everything here was decided with intention. But it does not shy away from rebuilding itself.

Three commissions left the studio this month. This one took the longest. Not because it was technically complex, but because it had to feel exactly right before it left.

A solitaire, but held differently. Minimal, precise, and built around a specific beginning. The client knows which one. When she sees it for the first time, I think she’ll know immediately that it marks exactly that moment. That is what I find most interesting about this work: the piece is finished, but the meaning was already there before the first sketch.

Come with me on my holiday. Laptop open, commission notes next to the sunscreen, client calls from a terrace. This is what running a bespoke jewellery house actually looks like.
Breakfast with a side of gemstone sourcing. A swim, then back to the design. Turns out the best ideas come when you are not trying to have them.
