A moment in time, preserved for millions of years.
This unusual ring centres on a polished amber cabochon containing a tiny mosquito, suspended within the golden material like a natural time capsule.
Betwen 30-90 millions of year ago, an ancient tree produced this sticky resin, which trapped this unsuspecting insect in time. As the resin was buried and subjected to heat and pressure over immense periods of time, it gradually hardened and fossilised into the amber we know today, preserving its tiny captive with remarkable detail.
Inclusions such as this offer a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric ecosystems, with insects, leaves, seeds and even air bubbles surviving within amber for tens of millions of years.
A wonderfully curious piece of natural history, transformed into jewellery.
