Hancocks fine jewellers, founded by Josiah Hancocks opened its Manchester doors in 1860. Josiah began as a clock winder to the gentry, visiting the homes and mansions of the nobility and industrial barons on his weekly round. His business prospered, enabling him to open a shop in Picadilly, later he moved to 29 King Street still occupied by Hancocks today. To this day, Hancocks is still in private
ownership, a rarity in these times of constant change. D to F are colourless diamonds, G is near colourless (rare white). The clarity scale determines the inclusions in the stone, again the 4 highest clarities are chosen – IF (internally flawless) VVS1 and VVS2 (very very slightly included) and VS1 (very slightly included).
