Another day at tho office π
Today on the bench it's a technique called 'reticulation' done here on 18ct white gold.
A reticulated finish is created by heating just the surface of the metal to melting point whilst being super careful not to melt the whole thing and create a molten ball of disaster!
You then encourage the surface bubbling by dragging and swirling the molten part to create an unpredictable but 100% unique finish that shows the beauty of this glorious metal in it's most elemental state.
18ct white gold has a super high melting point due to its palladium content so definitely don't try this at home kids!
One misconception associated with white gold is that, if worn, you need to have it re-plated regularly with white rhodium which gives it a bright white finish.
This is only true if you plate it in the first place which I never do unless specifically requested.
I mean - why would you! Look at that deep, warm white colour - it's absolutely beautiful and unique to this rich, hard wearing metal. Yummy yummy yummy π
I'll post the finished, one of a kind piece when it's complete! π€ππ₯
