Yesterday Godessa turned 10.

In some weird kind of alignment I feel like I currently have 10 active loops open in mind.

Finishing the renovation of upstairs. The workshops. Designing and making the Ostara collection. Changing the front window in the shop. Updating the website... I could list the whole ten but you get the idea.

My mind is in a constant whirl of what I need to be doing and it feels never-ending.

I know life is about cycles and I'm currently in a busy one. I'm building the foundations of the new version of Godessa and it takes a lot of time and energy.

And I just didn't have the energy to open up another loop to try to organise an event to celebrate 10 years.

But, it does feel like a milestone, so I wanted to at least acknowledge it on here and celebrate with all of you that make it possible for me to still be going.

I am beyond grateful for all the support and purchases you make that allow me to keep creating.

So today I'm celebrating 10 years of Godessa and sending a huge thanks to every single one of you that makes that possible ✨️

I managed to dig out this photo from ten years ago when I had my first ever exhibition at Resort Studios, when it used to be on Athelstan Road in Cliftonville.

I have lots of fond memories of those times and am grateful to be still creating new chapters for Godessa.

Hopefully one day I'll be looking back at this one from a villa in Italy with a glass of wine in hand... we can dream right? 🀣

Have a lovely weekend whatever you're up to ❀️

Where to find me over the Christmas season ✨️

I'm running both the Ramsgate shop and Canterbury market this year, so Olivia will be helping cover me.

For the first week Olivia will be at the market Mon-Fri and I'll be in the shop. After that we're going to see what works best.

Feel free to message if you want to know where I'll specifically be on a day 😊

Hope to see you over the festive period ✨️

The other day a sailor stumbled across my shop.

The boat he was working on had docked and he found himself wandering on Harbour Street.

Drawn in by the clock in the window, he came to tell me he didn't want any jewellery but that he loved my shop.

After half an hour of telling me various tales he decided that he did in fact want some jewellery, two rings to stack together.

I didn't have them in his size so he said he would come back.

And to my surprise, he did, a day later than he said, but he did.

In his Geordie accent he called me princess and told me I had a bonny face, immediately profusely apologising because he 'shouldn't say that'.

As he left he said he'd bought two rings because one was going to be for someone special, winking at me.

I'm too wise and too married to be part of his story, but I love that my rings are going to be part of a sailor's tale.

I'm pretty sure Mama Cocha sent him my way. The Incan sailors would make offerings to her for safe passage across the seas.

When he left I gave him a Shiva's eye seashell as a lucky talisman. Sailors used to call them mermaid coins.

He reminded me of another world somehow.

He reminded me that there are still sailors who voyage across seas, come and recount far fetched stories, tell you they've fallen in love with you with a wink and then disappear into another world again with a lucky mermaid coin to keep them safe.

In a world that sometimes feels so heavy he brought a smile to my day and a tale to tell.

We're back and Mama Cocha has officially surfaced in the shop window 🌊

I've loved creating this collection, she's been a powerful and abundant goddess to work with and has brought me so many magical moments, of which I will share more.

Each goddess I work with has their own energy and themes to explore.

Mama Cocha helped me swim back to the surface from the dark depths, she provided calm waters for me to float and flow with my creativity.

For the Incans she was a mother goddess and I've certainly felt nurtured and provided for whilst working with her.

My intention is that these pieces will carry her energy and connect you to abundance, flow, joy and creativity.

The pieces I have created and this window are in honour of her and all those who have honoured her before me πŸ©΅πŸ§‘πŸ’›

I hope you feel the goddess energy and let me know what you think of the window display 😊

Looking forward to seeing you after the 15th September when all the building works will be complete ❀️

Sometimes I forget to share how magical working with the goddesses can be, so here's the story of my new goddess collection.

After being in the shop for a few weeks, I decided I wanted to create a new collection and I felt it needed to be a water goddess.

There are many water goddesses, but the first goddess that came to my mind was Mama Cocha, who I had come to know through some oracle cards I have.

She is an Incan goddess of the sea, lakes and water, and is also connected to the moon.

I normally sit for a while and meditate on a new idea and that's what I did until I was sure this was to be my new collection.

Once I decide on a goddess, one of the first things I do for research is a Google image search to see ancient depictions and how other artists have interpreted her.

There were very few images of Mama Cocha, but my jaw literally dropped open when I saw one of the few on there.

A couple of days before I'd decided to create the new collection, my dad, who is an avid charity shop and bootfair hunter, had brought a statue into the shop for me.

It was a bust of a female figure carved in wood (the one in the photo of this post), and he thought it could be a goddess or priestess, so got it for me. I had no idea who she was but I loved the statue and immediately placed her on a shelf in the shop.

And by now you've probably guessed, out of the handful of images that came up on my google search was one that looked nearly identical to the statue my dad had got me.

It felt like a very magical moment. What were the chances of that coincidence?

That my dad would find an Incan goddess carving in a charity shop in Thanet. She even has little waves carved underneath her bust.

For me it was a sign that this was the collection I was meant to create and that Mama Cocha was very present to oversee its progress!

And most of all, it was a reminder that life can be truly magical when you follow your intuition and that the universe is always there helping you find your way ✨️

It turns out when you open a shop you don't need your own inner critic anymore, people are more than happy to take on that role for you!

Since opening I have heard the following in various different versions...

It's nothing like it used to be.
It's changed for the worse.
It looks empty.
Nothing good in there.
Doesn't appeal to me.
Load of old tosh.
How can she charge that for a bit of beaten metal.
Too expensive.

And probably my favourite... I wasn't actually there but my mum overheard two women looking in the window saying 'look at it, it's a load of old tat'.

At which point my mum grabbed a broom, stormed out to where they were standing, started rigorously sweeping and told them 'my daughter makes all of this, she works very hard, if you want cheap tat go to poundland'. At which they silently scuttled away 🀣

The Mama lioness came out and she literally and metaphorically swept them away.

Not being there this story actually made me laugh!

But when I am there sometimes those words are piercing and they reverberate in my head. And weirdly they seem to come in waves. I'll go days without any mean comments, then in one day I can hear multiple criticisms, like yesterday for example.

Those comments all scream 'YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH'

The windows aren't good enough.
You haven't made enough.
You're not going fast enough.
Your jewellery isn't good enough.
Your creativity isn't good enough.

But I guess I'm sharing this to say it's possible despite the inner critic and the surprisingly vocal outer ones to find the courage to keep going.

It's possible to counter those negative comments, even if I just do it quietly in my own head.

Everything I create is made by my hands with intention, effort and meaning and that takes time.

It costs that much because I have spent years of time, money and energy investing in my business and my craft and the space and materials have a cost.

It doesn't have to appeal to everyone, but it is my true authentic creativity.

I hope sharing the challenges I face and how I keep going, thanks to all of you who do support me and connect to what I do, is a reminder that whatever challenges you are facing, keep going ❀ xx

Today marks an important shift for me. Instead of being at folk week, as I have been for the past seven years, I'm here in my shop.

I wasn't sure how I would feel as when I made the decision back in March I was torn.

My logical, rational brain said 'do it another year, you don't know what will happen with the shop, you built folk week up for all these years, maybe people won't come to find you in the shop'.

But my heart and intuition said, 'it's time to close that chapter, be grateful for what it gave you, but it's time to move on'. And I decided to trust that.

It can be so hard to trust and let go of things that you have previously poured so much into and that have brought you joy. But it's so important to make space for what you're being called to do next.

I realised with the shop I'm building the foundations of the next phase of Godessa.

A place where I can make intentional special pieces, tell the stories behind them, nurture and create connections and open up opportunities to collaborate and grow.

I still have a long way to go, but even in the past two months I have already felt big shifts and had some magical experiences and it makes me so excited to continue this journey and see where it will take me.

If you normally come and see me at folk week I'd love for you to come and visit the shop, and for all of you who have already, thank you so much and I will do my best to keep making it more beautiful and magical for you ✨️

This piece was a lot of work but I was really happy with the final design 😊

Which one? πŸ€” (excuse the dodgy photoshop, it's testing my limits 🀣)

After feeling like I'd taken two steps backwards with the shop things seem to be moving forward again, so I want to encourage that energy and ask your opinion again 😊.

I'm working with the incredibly talented on the sign for Godessa and we've got a couple of options.

I absolutely loved hearing your thoughts on the shopfront colour so thought I'd see which sign you're drawn to the most. As you can see one is very simple, the other the moon and stars and number would be gilded in white gold.

Super simple or stars and moon? πŸ€” Let me know which you prefer 😊
