Wee yarn… a Mash of Bubbles & Diamonds, as this colourful wee stretch of Warrenpoint gets a fresh look & Diamonds receives a generous lick of glossy red paint. ❤️

There’s the ladder up, the dust sheets down & enough red gloss about the frontage to protect it from the Warrenpoint weather for another generation—or at least until somebody brushes against it before it dries.

The original proprietors may simply have chosen red because it helped protect the timber. But they might also have believed—or half-believed, without ever knowing exactly why—that red offered a little spiritual protection too.

After all, red has long been used around doors, windows & thresholds—the vulnerable wee boundaries between the safety inside & whatever might come wandering along outside.

Perhaps they used it simply because it worked: keeping the rain off the timber, mischief away from the doorway & giving customers a warm welcome.

Practical protection, spiritual protection—or merely a colour that looks mighty handsome beneath those overflowing red flowers.

Whatever the reason, Diamonds is shining again, Bubbles is bubbling away next door & Mash completes the wee trio…
