Giving discarded fishing rope a new lease of life… 🪢🌊♻️

Castaway Ropeworks is a family-run business bringing together Amy, Adam, Amy’s mum Dawn, and their children Morgan (11) and Drake (9), who all play a part in their mission to give discarded marine materials a new purpose.

They recover ghost gear from beaches across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, as well as using old fishing rope donated by local fishermen. Using traditional ropework and splicing skills, they handmake a range of hard-wearing, practical and decorative items, from dog leads and toys to home accessories and jewellery.

Their mission is to keep as much discarded fishing gear as possible out of landfill, and income from their stalls helps keep their truck on the road so they can continue recovering more ghost gear from our coastline.

We're delighted to have Castaway Ropeworks joining us at the St Ives Christmas Market this November, where you can discover their range of truly unique handmade products, each with its own story to tell.

Meet Amy, Adam and Dawn, the family behind Castaway Ropeworks…

🪢 Your all-time favourite creation:
Adam’s- We call it the make a difference mat that he made for the Cornwall Make a difference awards when he won best eco friendly business.
He made it for the photo.
Amy - the poppies because they are very meaningful.

🎄 Your favourite thing about Christmas:
Adam- mother in laws dinner!
Amy- the magic and spending time together.

❤️ What do you love most about your business:
Adam- getting as much ghost gear off the beaches in hope we are saving marine wildlife.
Amy- when you walk down the street and see someone using something you made. That is an incredible confidence boost!
We all look out for the wreaths at Christmas! It’s become a spot the wreath game

🤫 Something people might not know about you:
Adam- He’s a full time lorry driver.
Amy- I carried the Olympic torch on the UK Olympic torch relay.

New this year at the St Ives Christmas Market at Polmanter, you can book a visit with Santa, including an hour of soft play.

Our indoor soft play will also be open for general use at £5 per child, subject to availability, with festive crafts to enjoy too.
