💎 Clark Visits the Edinburgh Assay Office…💎
Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Edinburgh Assay Office with Fife College. I took along a few of my finished pieces to get them hallmarked, as I want to offer my customers complete transparency and assurance about the precious metals I use. It’s so important to me that my buyers know exactly what they’re paying for and can trust the quality of my work.
The Edinburgh Assay Office is the trading name of the Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh, it’s one of Scotland’s oldest and most respected institutions. It was established in 1457 and its the oldest consumer protection groups in Scotland. Since 1485, the iconic Castle Mark (a three-towered castle) has been stamped on items that pass assay, symbolising quality, trust, and confidence. With over 560 years of expertise, the Edinburgh Assay Office continues to uphold its reputation.
As I have my own Sponsor Mark, I will now be a part of Edinburgh Assay Offices rich history. Knowing that every piece of jewellery I’ve design and created will carry this mark. My customers can be assured that they’re investing in pieces made with genuine precious metals, crafted with care and integrity. ✅
Here’s what each mark means:
✨ Sponsor’s Mark: Who made it (Clark Rennie)
✨ Metal & Purity: e.g., (925 for sterling silver)
✨ Assay Office Mark: Where it was tested (like the iconic Edinburgh Assay Office)
Why does hallmarking matter?
✅ Consumer protection – you know you’re getting what you paid for
✅ Legal requirement – it’s the law for most precious metal items
✅ Boosts resale value – hallmarked pieces are more desirable
Always look for the hallmark, It’s the ultimate mark of trust and quality. 💍✨
