A good attendance in the saleroom, together with online bidders, made for an enjoyable evening at Plymouth Auction Rooms on Wednesday.
Among the highlights was Robert Lenkiewicz's remarkable 1975 triptych, Wait and See, which sold to a bidder in the room for £3,100, having been offered for sale for the first time in over 50 years.
A colourful Provençal street scene by Fred Yates realised £1,300, while Allan Nelson's large oil painting Beach Scene achieved £1,000.
One of the surprises of the evening was a pair of etchings depicting San Remo by Sir Claude Francis Barry, which exceeded their £400–£600 estimate to sell for £1,600 following a lively online bidding battle.
A collection of works by Mary Martin also attracted considerable interest, with telephone, online and saleroom bidders competing for the paintings, which realised almost £3,000 in total.
The Beryl Cook and Robert Lenkiewicz sections were both complete sell-outs, with Cook's signed limited-edition prints attracting particularly spirited bidding and keeping auctioneer Paul Keen busy on the rostrum.
We are now inviting entries of paintings and prints for our forthcoming Art Auctions, with free auction valuations available at our Plymouth saleroom.
