Scottish Sea Glass - Sea Glass Jewellery Scottish Sea Glass is about using what others throw away and nature gives back. www.scottishseaglass.co.uk I also carve the glass I find into beautiful shapes.

Established in 2009, uses 100% reclaimed glass found on the beaches of Scotland’s beautiful coastline. I create individually hand crafted pieces of wearable art. Each piece of glass I use is carefully selected with design in mind. I add a combination of beads, charms, metals and/or sterling silver to compliment the naturally tumbled, shaped and frosted sea glass. As no two pieces of sea glass I find are ever the same your

Today is 'national curious events day'. This odd day is dedicated to the strange, the unexplained, and the wonderfully weird occurrences that defy easy explanation. To me sea glass falls into this category. After decades of being broken and bashed it emerges as something truly magical, wonderful and weirdly addictive. Why is sea glass referred to as 'mermaid tears'?

In folklore and mythology, sea glass carries deep symbolism :

Sorrow : the tears cried by a mermaid if a sailor was lost at sea.

Sacrifice : If the sea nymph fell in love with a human and used their magic to save them, Neptune (or Poseidon) would banish them to the depths of the ocean.

Love: these crystallizes tears from a mermaid would rise to the ocean surface and wash ashore as sea glass - an eternal tokens of the love and remembrance for the sailors they cared for.

Renewal: More modern symbolism views sea glass as a metaphor for how the rough, sharp edges of life's hardships can be smoothed and transformed into something beautiful through time, patience, and the healing motion of the sea.
