Jewellery has always told a story and Victorian jewellery is no exception.
The Victorians were particularly fond of symbolism, choosing jewellery not simply for its beauty, but for the meaning it carried. I am in love with these three gold pieces stacked together.
The swallow became a symbol of love, loyalty and safe return â traditionally associated with sailors and the promise of coming home to those they loved. This one is adorned with tiny seed pearls.
The heart represented love and affection, often given as a deeply personal token between loved ones. A symbol widely used today. This one has a beautiful diamond set in the centre â¤ď¸
And the cross, recognised worldwide and worn close to the heart, symbolised faith, devotion and protection. The piece pictured has been hand engraved with a beautiful floral pattern.
Three beautiful antique pieces, each with their own history and meaning. The best part about our vintage jewellery is that I get to wear it for just a little bit before I can bear to part with it for our vintage display!
If youâve fallen in love with one of these pieces, message us or visit us in store where you can view them up close.
Thatâs the magic of vintage jewellery â the story doesnât end with its first owner.
If you too have a slight obsession with the history of Victorian jewellery, Iâd highly recommend the book âthe secret language of Victorian jewellery by Amy Azzarito | Design History which is a beautifully illustrated by Brian Reedy itâs the perfect guide to all things Victorian đ¤
