A very special watch at a very special price …

When Haute Horlogerie meets the world of music! 🎧

Few watches combine creativity, engineering and individuality quite like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Music Edition.

Introduced in 2022 and limited to just 250 pieces worldwide, this extraordinary 43mm black ceramic creation celebrates AP’s longstanding connection with the music industry, with some wonderfully imaginative design details.

The centrepiece is undoubtedly that spectacular dial. Ten vibrant columns recreate the illuminated levels of a recording studio’s audio equaliser, beautifully contrasting against the black Tapisserie background. The effect is striking, giving the dial an almost digital appearance despite being entirely mechanical.

The musical influences extend well beyond the dial. The textured titanium studs are inspired by audio jack plugs, while the distinctive titanium crown guards cleverly replicate the sliding faders found on professional mixing consoles.

Even the ceramic case deserves special attention, with beautifully executed brushed and polished surfaces showcasing AP’s expertise in working with this exceptionally hard material.

White gold hands and hour markers provide excellent contrast, while the interchangeable rubber strap system includes additional red, blue, yellow and green options to complement the colourful design.

Inside beats the automatic calibre 4309, offering a 70-hour power reserve, with the absence of a date display allowing that magnificent dial to take centre stage.

It’s bold, beautifully considered and refreshingly different. A wonderful example of how serious watchmaking doesn’t always have to take itself too seriously.

Is this the best blue dial - if not one of the best dials, per se - on the market?

We were delighted to have this Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4500V through yesterday whilst sourcing the watch for a great client of ours. Its striking electric blue dial changing from cobalt to navy in different lights.

There are actually three different finishes across the dial, as explicitly described by Vacheron. The central dial area has a sunburst satin finish, the internal minute track a circular satin finish and the outer minute track a velvet finish.

Its main rivals in the integrated-bracelet luxury sports-watch category are the blue Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. And their dial designs are quite different.

The Royal Oak is celebrated for its geometric tapisserie pattern. The Nautilus has its distinctive horizontal embossing and often more muted blue-grey tones. Vacheron approaches the design with a comparatively clean, almost uninterrupted expanse of colour.

That gives the Overseas something of its own character: the colour itself, rather than an obvious decorative pattern, becomes the visual centrepiece.

New arrival ❗️ There are Daytonas … and then there are the very best value, collectible-level, Daytonas.

With its classic steel bezel, timeless proportions and Rolex’s first fully in-house automatic chronograph movement, the calibre 4130, the reference 116520 offers an awful lot of Daytona for considerably less money than its ceramic successors or zenith predecessors.

And then this particular 2015 example takes things a step further.

Featuring the collectible ‘APH’ dial, identifiable by the unusual spacing between the letters ‘COSMOGR’ and ‘APH’, alongside the later blue-glowing Chromalight, it represents one of the most desirable configurations of the reference.

A distinctive dial variation, late production year (2015 on a UK-registered warranty card with the dial variant detail printed) and the last generation of steel-bezel Daytonas. A compelling combination for collectors and potentially one of the most underrated modern Rolex Daytonas.
