It’s a comparison that’s a great reminder of just how much Breitling has evolved whilst still keeping the core DNA of the Navitimer intact.

On the left, the Breitling Navitimer AB0121211B1P1 feels like one of the strongest modern Navitimers. The reverse panda dial is striking and the classic 3-6-9 chronograph layout gives the dial a symmetry that makes all the usual Navitimer chaos feel highly controlled. Powered by Breitling’s in-house B01 movement, it’s sharp, refined and probably the version that best balances heritage with everyday wearability.

Then there’s the A19340 Olympus … and subtle it isn’t.

It’s peak old-school Breitling - the era when “more” always seemed to be the answer. Chronograph, full calendar, moonphase, slide rule bezel … the Olympus packs an incredible amount onto the dial, yet somehow works. The longer you look, the more there is to discover. It’s complicated, a little mad and all the better for it.

That’s what makes this pairing so interesting. The AB feels like Breitling saying, “We’ve refined the formula”. The Olympus feels like they said, “Let’s add everything.”

And honestly… we’re glad both exist. Which is your favourite?

There’s something incredibly charming about anOrdain as a brand and especially the Model 2 Racing Green example which shows exactly why collectors have fallen so hard for them.

The first thing that grabs you is that dial. anOrdain’s vitreous enamel work is all done by hand in Scotland, with each dial fired multiple times in a kiln. The result is a richness and depth that’s difficult to appreciate until you see one in person. The green shifts beautifully depending on the light, from bright emerald tones to something much deeper and moodier.

What collectors really love about anOrdain is that they feel genuinely special. In a market full of familiar names, these offer something refreshingly different: proper craftsmanship, a strong design identity and a level of artisanal detail that punches well above the price point.

Then there’s the waitlist.

Demand for anOrdain has gone through the roof in recent years, largely because production is intentionally slow and meticulous. At one point, wait times stretched to several years and even now getting hold of certain models isn’t exactly easy. That scarcity has only made them more desirable, with many collectors happy to wait patiently for their slot.

A brilliant reminder that hype doesn’t always have to come from the biggest brands.

In 2020, Rolex delayed the annual release of their new models until September - rather than in April as they normally would - due to the global disorder caused by a certain pandemic. They had also released a new style warranty card - a much cleaner dark green card that didn’t include the original purchaser’s details, a land code or the Authorised Dealer who sold it - in July of the same year.

As part of the their new releases, when they eventually did arrive, was the brand new 41mm Submariner range - the 12 series - a completely new, larger size for their most iconic model. So … there is only a very short 3 month window during which you could buy the first year of production new Submariner with the new style card. And this particular example is one of the very first ever sold. Dated September 2020 and coming as an unworn full set, it’s a collector’s dream.

The Day-Date has always been Rolex’s flagship but every so often they produce a dial that elevates it even further.

This 40mm ref. 228238 features the striking Green Ombré dial, with a vibrant green centre that gradually darkens towards the edge. Derived from the French word for “shaded”, ombré perfectly describes the effect, creating a dial that appears to change character with every shift in light.

The Day-Date has been Rolex’s flagship watch since 1956, becoming the first wristwatch to display both the full day of the week and the date. Nearly 40 years after its launch, this 1995 reference 18238 shows just how well Rolex got the formula right.

At 36mm, it wears exactly as a Day-Date should. It’s a size that feels elegant, comfortable and effortlessly versatile, whether you’re wearing it with a suit or something far more casual.

The 18238 is also an important reference in the Day-Date story. Earlier models such as the 18038 featured a single quickset movement, allowing the date to be adjusted independently but not the day. With the introduction of the calibre 3155, the 18238 gained double quickset functionality, meaning both the day and date can be adjusted separately through the crown. A small change but one that collectors hugely appreciate.

Finished in 18ct yellow gold with the iconic President bracelet and champagne dial, this is the classic Day-Date in its purest form.
