Let’s talk about tarnishing…

I thought I’d share this because it’s such a good example of what can happen to sterling silver permanent jewellery when it comes into contact with chemicals, creams, perfumes — and in this case, swimming! 🏊‍♀️

This is my necklace after just 3 swim sessions. You can see how much the silver had darkened and tarnished!

Now, if this happens to your permanent jewellery, please don’t panic or think it’s ruined. 🥰

Sterling silver naturally reacts with things like chlorine, salt water, perfume, moisturisers and other chemicals, which can cause it to tarnish. Some people may notice it happens more quickly than others, depending on their skin and the products they use.

With permanent jewellery, removing it before swimming isn’t always an option — and that’s completely fine! It’s designed to be worn and enjoyed every day. It may simply need a little extra care from time to time.

And the best bit?

✨ Look how easily it comes back! ✨

A few minutes with a good silver polishing cloth and my necklace is looking lovely and shiny again. 🤍

So, if your permanent jewellery starts to look a little darker or duller after swimming, showering or using creams and perfumes, don’t worry. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s damaged beyond repair.

A little bit of gentle polishing and TLC can often bring your silver beautifully back to life. ✨
