We are extraordinarily proud to announce that UK Childrenâs Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce is coming to Serenity Booksellers to celebrate the launch of his powerful new book A British Childhood â and joining him in conversation will be none other than Elbow frontman and cultural icon Guy Garvey.
Frank joins us fresh from two years as Childrenâs Laureate, during which he visited schools surviving in temporary buildings, met children lost within the prison system, and spoke with families in limbo awaiting asylum decisions. What he found prompted him to reflect on his own Merseyside upbringing, the transformative power of literature, and how childhood in Britain has changed often not for the better. A British Childhood is the result, searing, urgent, deeply personal, and impossible to ignore.
In conversation with Guy Garvey, one of the Northâs most beloved creative voices, Frank will explore the ideas at the heart of the book, his time as Childrenâs Laureate, and the question that drives everything - what do we truly owe our children?
The evening will include an audience Q&A and book signing.
