The eastern redbud tree is on my mind, Facebook. I have one of these in my garden and it's really lovely.
The spring is heralded by tiny bright pink blossoms which start from the bark rather than having stalks themselves. They are soon followed by the leaves, which are a luscious dark red and start out small enough to make jewellery from. Within a couple of weeks they have grown too big and I've missed my chance. The leaves get bigger and bigger and in autumn they turn amber before falling off.
The leaves are very delicate, one could even say flimsy. It makes painting them with the silverclay paste rather difficult and it has to be done as quickly as the drying process will allow, however you can't speed up the drying because the leaves themselves will dry out and then there's nothing there to support the clay.
This spring I captured five little leaves in time and can now present them to you as two pairs of earrings and a pendant. The medium earrings are available from me at my studio, just message. The small earrings and the pendant are available from Made In Stroud shop.
