Who remembers farthings? I don’t but we still had to do sums using them in junior school in the 1960s!
These are part of a driftwood necklace or key hanger for wall-mounting with the flame-coloured farthings mounted on twisted brass stems forming the hooks.
To me, they show how nice our coins used to be. These examples are from the war years, so I’ve put 1939 on the left and 1945 on the right with King George VI in the middle.
The bird is a little wren.

NEW STOCK LOCATION FOR BITEY CRAB
In a lovely little oasis of calm just off Cowbridge High Street is Jenny Lambert Art and her The Cowbridge Craft Hub
It’s a fabulous shop featuring over 100 local crafters’ work.
I’ve just taken a shelf there and stocked it with my art/decor pieces. See the third image for some of the work I’m displaying there.
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Cowbridge. Make a day of it - plenty of independent shops and restaurants to choose from while you’re there.

If any other crafters are looking for somewhere to show off their work, Jenny is always looking for something unique to add to the hub.

Apologies to anyone who was looking for me at the Cow & Ghost Vintage Vintage and Makers Market at the National Waterfront Museum last Sunday.
I’m afraid I was laid low by a bug kindly shared by my smallest granddaughter….
Gutted to have missed being there.

In the meantime I’ve finished this little mushroom sculpture I posted about a few weeks ago. Now features a copper “worm”
It will probably be part of my display at a new venue - more details soon.

Busy week getting ready for the Cow & Ghost Vintage Vintage and Makers Market at the National Waterfront Museum this weekend.
I’ll be there on Sunday with plenty of new pieces, including these rings made from a 100 year old silver watch chain and some from my stash of silver teaspoon bowls.
I’m only doing this market and the same one in December for the rest of this year and you won’t find my jewellery anywhere else right now.
If you can’t make it on Sunday there are plenty of other stalls to visit on Saturday with a huge range of vintage pieces and unique crafted items you won’t find anywhere else.

Something different for my stall at the Cow & Ghost Vintage Vintage and Makers Market at the National Waterfront Museum on September 13th.
These were made by my eldest granddaughter on her last visit. They’re made from the spent sh***un cartridges she kept when we went clay pigeon shooting a few months back.
They incorporate sea glass, copper and beads from my various material stashes.
Obviously she’ll get the proceeds if they sell. It might make the bruising she got from the gun seem worthwhile!

Not sure how this one will finish up, but it started life as the plain one on the left from The Works
A bit of shaping, sanding, burning and waxing and it’s transformed into the one on the right.
I can only hope that someone likes it, but a passing teenager said it was “very cool” so I’ll take that!

As well as bugs and mushrooms, another recurring theme of mine is space aliens.
This one was inspired by a couple of charity shop tea light holders that fitted together perfectly (Barnardo's Swansea and Wales Air Ambulance Charity if I remember correctly) and one of my stash of old non-working radio valves.
Lo and behold a flying saucer and a copper-cloaked alien (Darth Valver?) on a nice piece of Gower driftwood.

Like most makers I often get asked where I get my ideas from.
I don’t really understand the question. Everything around me triggers something in my head!
I was given these old, non-working light bulbs by David of Plantiques (now Battlefront Vintage). They’re 40 year old fairground lights and he likes to see what I can create from random stuff he acquires!
I put them together with some 22mm copper pipe, copper wire, the feet from a small wooden chest and a piece of driftwood and…..
Say hello to Cryselco Stop’n’Go Ants!
Not sure even David Attenborough has come across these yet.
