As it’s Wednesday, let’s call it a Wellbeing Wednesday kind of day.
There’s actually a lot of science behind why crafting feels so good for us. Creative activities like jewellery making can help reduce stress, improve focus, calm the nervous system and encourage mindfulness by keeping us present in the moment.
As someone who lives with anxiety, PTSD and all the other wonderfully exhausting things that can come with being human, crafting became an outlet for me. A way to find a little breathing room in my mind when things felt loud or heavy.
There’s something incredibly grounding about working with your hands. The rhythm of sawing, filing, sanding and shaping metal gently pulls your focus back into the present. No pressure to be perfect, just space to create, process and slow down for a while.
That’s a huge part of why NICOL Studio exists. Not just to teach silversmithing, but to offer a welcoming space where people can switch off from the chaos of life for a couple of hours and leave feeling lighter than when they arrived.
