Katie Lees is a contemporary fine jeweller whose work focuses on the craft and creation of heirloom pieces for the modern era.

As a 2009 graduate of the Glasgow School of Art I dedicated my final year to the exploration of the perhaps incongruous concept of creating finely crafted jewellery, of silver and semi-precious stones, from the heavy industrial aesthetic of the shipbuilding history that has moulded the city of Glasgow. The language is drawn not only from the pragmatic forms and robust engineering of the ships themselves but also from the remnants of industrial steel sheds, from sheets of rusted steel and dock stanchions of weather washed wood that define the river Clyde along its length. The industrial aesthetic is not self conscious but prosaic and through a process of photographing, drawing and painting, condensing, repeating, and printing I have derived a body of work which extracts the essence of these evocative forms

There are some pieces that are classic and beautiful in their original form, but need modernised with integrity, to make them more suited for their next chapter.

This is what Jonny was looking for with his heirloom for Morag. Jonny brought the antique piece in and liked the floral aspect, though realised it needed tweaked to bring the over all height down, and a change of metal, from white to beautiful 18ct yellow gold. We kept the composition the same, and the stones in their new settings look brand new and gloriously sparkly. Swipe to see the original.

Dean and Sarah joined Katie to chat through ideas for this bespoke and exciting piece, a custom asymmetric engagement ring, with a scattering of diamonds and sapphires, and a gorgeous teal pear centre.

The completion of the band was kept secret, so Dean could surprise Sarah on holiday to Mull. 🥂☀️

We know we’ve been super quiet on here, there’s been so much happening, and we can’t wait to share all the gorgeous pieces being made behind the scenes, but we don’t know where to start!

Katie has been extremely busy moving the HQ to Argyll, and setting up the workshop up there, whilst still coming to Glasgow for consultation days.

We’ve had some DELICIOUS rings in the mix, which are crying out to be shared, amongst special special wedding bands and bespoke commissions.

In all honesty, there doesn’t seem to be much time to spare (is there ever?) to post on here and keep up with the news, without being a bit overwhelmed and helpless with what’s happening in the world, but we promise we’ll be more open to sharing, good and bad. I know I’m not alone there ❤️

Kiran and Hannah 💚

Kiran wanted to surprise Hannah with a celestial, green sapphire alternative engagement ring, and already we knew, this was going to be a stunner.

Set in 14ct yellow gold, with a scattering of diamonds, this piece is the perfect pairing of whimsical and a little punk too.

Congrats to the lovely couple.

A Unique Bespoke Creation

The design brief called for an Art Deco geometric style, crafted in 18-carat yellow gold, featuring a hexagon salt and pepper diamond, complemented by sparkling white round and baguette diamonds.

Each piece is thoughtfully tailored to the individual’s preferences, with personalised collaboration between the client and Katie to realise the perfect bespoke item. We currently have limited availability for consultations in June.

This chic ring headed off to beautiful Paris with David, to pop the question to Lauren.

A gorgeous salt and pepper oval with two trillion diamonds all set in 14ct white gold, this split bezel beauty was a joy to make 🖤🩶🤍

Will and Julia visited us with the exciting brief of designing their bespoke wedding bands, to be exchanged during their vows in the South of France.

Will desired a contemporary interpretation of a signet ring, featuring a striking black diamond centrepiece as a subtle nod to Julia’s engagement ring. Julia, on the other hand, requested a complementary piece to sit alongside her existing ring, which we previously designed, to complete the set.

It was a pleasure to work on this project 😊

Sophisticated and art deco in style, with a graceful linear stepped design, crafted in yellow gold and adorned with subtle hints of green emerald. This was the exact vision that wonderful Stuart and Robyn entrusted to me, and together, we poured our creativity into bringing it to life—culminating in this truly stunning piece.

After an adjustment to the ring size, this creation, along with its new owners, was ready to embark on its journey—heading off from Australia to begin a new chapter. ❤️

Niall arranged a conversation with Katie, driven by the desire to surprise Poppy with an extraordinary, bespoke engagement ring during their upcoming journey back to Scotland.

Together, we crafted this stunning art deco masterpiece, meticulously fashioned from treasured 18-carat yellow gold and featuring a radiant centre diamond, enhanced with baguette white diamonds and twinkling sapphires.

While it commands attention with its elegant stepped design, it also boasts a low profile, making it incredibly comfortable and practical—precisely what our clients cherish most when seeking a piece that’s both breathtaking and wearable, something that embodies the perfect blend of beauty and meaning.
