How wonderful to return from holiday to this fabulous late summer sunshine! 😎

And all the better for showcasing a couple of holiday purchases!

I’m a big advocate of and and always try to practice what I preach! And let’s face it, it’s not difficult to buy gorgeous, unique and locally made jewellery for myself! 🤣

This holiday a bought a couple of brass bangles, made by the Maasai people, one with a piece of recycled glass the other an with a piece of etched bone - which feels, to me, like scrimshaw!

🐚 Did you know that abalone shells are a by-product of global abalone harvesting and aquaculture industries, where the mollusc is primarily farmed or fished as a food source.

🐚 Abalone (also known as Paua) is highly prized in many regions, especially China, Southeast Asia, and California, for its meat.

🐚 Rather than letting the discarded shells go to waste, they are cleaned, cut, and polished into mother-of-pearl cabochons, blanks, or veneer sheets for the jewellery and fashion industries.

🐚 Because of their by-product status and popularity, many of the shells used in jewellery today are grown in sustainable, controlled aquaculture environments.

I’ve been a little distracted recently - with the glorious May weather, the beach, the garden, a holiday (the list goes on and on!) 😁

But, a rainy day always draws me back to the bench! And today is definitely wet and windy here in Dorset! ☔️

My first priority is to complete some of my many unfinished finished projects, less of course I get distracted by new ideas! 🤣
