Hi Gemalistas đâ¨
Iâm always asked: âHow is your jewellery so colourful?â
And Iâm the kind of person who puts on a black dress⌠and then takes it off. Not because I donât love blackâbecause it makes me feel a bit sad.
I need color. And I genuinely believe color is important in your life.
I was born in Malta, grew up in the Caribbean, lived in West Africa, and then came to Hong Kong. Iâve always been surrounded by island lifeâand that means blue seas, warm countries, and beautiful natural colour.
So of course Iâm passionate about colour gemstones. Iâve been collecting for 35+ years.
And people always ask me: what comes firstâthe gem or the design?
For me, it has to be the gem. Sometimes Iâll sit with a gemstone for yearsâliterallyâuntil the inspiration arrives for what it wants to become.
When a gemstone is big, you need a setting thatâs simple and elegantâbecause the stone has to be the star. When stones are small, you can be more detailed, more âdiamond-yâ⌠but with a bold gem, you let it speak.
And one more tip (this is important if you ever want matching pieces):
If youâre buying a pair of earrings (especially something rare in a large size), make sure you buy all pieces at the same timeâbecause they often need to be cut from the same crystal rough.
Thatâs where the magic really is: an earring in your ring, beautiful sizes, gorgeous colours⌠and pieces that feel truly special.
Yesâthe gem is always the star. đđż
