Rika Dermody – Hat Designer
Rika has been designing hats since she began to work for a Japanese bespoke hat company for 10 years. Last year she had her first sale in Hong Kong. Her hat appeared on the front page, city column , of South China Morning Post on November 2nd. As she was born to a family who own a small hat manufacturing business, she has shown herself to be a passionate maker of vari
ous things from her childhood. This background and her all experience has given her hat making many different concepts. Since she was willing to assist family business she has had an affection for hats. She believes all materials themselves know what kind of shape they want to be. When her intention corresponds to materials’ expectation, her hats become real and come alive. She uses natural straw, man-made fibres, beads and ribbon to create meticulously crafted, one-of-a kind hats for clients looking for the perfect accessory for a special occasion or for everyday use. Rika’s collection of hats in this exhibition will bring you to one of the special scenes in the movie or fantasy world. Some people said just try on Rika’s hat to make you smile and be happy.
