Here’s something I never knew about Rosslyn until yesterday? It has the oldest beehive in the world! At almost 600 years old it predates others in Jerusalem. Founded in 1446 by the last Prince of Orkney, Sir William St Clair, restoration workers investigating a wonky pinnacle on the roof (highlighted below) discovered fossilised honey combs & a decorative flower at the base used for the bees to enter the hive. The bees had deserted the hive with all the work going on but they are back now & while Rosslyn doesn’t harvest that honey they have partnered up with the local school and introduced 4 new hives which have been producing honey since 2023👍🐝 Susan

Our first stop was Rosslyn Chapel with its amazing history, strange stories & intricate carvings inside & out. You can’t take pictures inside but you can look at them online at the link below, most famous is the Apprentice’s Pillar. Rosslyn was virtually unknown until it featured in the movie of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci code which grossed $111 million dollars in the first week of its relase so visitors have been coming from all over the world to see it ever since 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Susan
