💍 May your love be like the Claddagh ring,
with faithful heart and loyal hand,
In friendship first and trust held fast,
a bond no season can disband.

May it stand like stone along the coast,
where Atlantic winds have worn the land,
Weathered, sure, and set in place,
no passing storm can shift its stand.

May it burn low upon your hearth,
not bright for show, but bright to keep,
A steady fire through winter nights,
a vow held firm and buried deep.

And when the years have turned and gone,
may what you built still carry on.

🔥🇮🇪 Maureen O’Hara on Being Irish

“Above all else, deep in my soul, I’m a tough Irishwoman.”

Born in Dublin, Maureen O’Hara became one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars while remaining strongly connected to Ireland throughout her life.

Her screen presence was often defined by the same qualities she spoke of herself: strength, determination and unmistakable Irish pride.

☘️ “To be Irish is to carry both joy and sorrow lightly, to laugh in the rain and dance with the ghosts of memory.”

There is something deeply Irish in holding humour and hardship side by side.

The past is never far away, but neither is the instinct to keep going, keep laughing, and make room for joy.

🐺 The Werewolves of Ossory

One of Ireland’s strangest medieval tales comes from Ossory.

In the 12th century, Gerald of Wales recorded the story of a man and woman condemned to take the form of wolves for seven years. Far from the savage werewolves of later horror, they could speak and reason.

The male wolf encounters a travelling priest and asks him to give Christian rites to his dying companion. The tale becomes less a story of monsters than a strange medieval question about what remains human beneath an altered form.

Whether Gerald was preserving an older Irish tradition, reshaping folklore, or adapting wider medieval ideas about transformation remains debated.
The wolf certainly left its mark on Irish language and identity. The surname Ó Faoláin, later anglicised as Phelan and Whelan, derives from Faolán, meaning “little wolf.”

The Werewolves of Ossory remain an unusual meeting point between Irish tradition, medieval Christianity and supernatural storytelling.

🇮🇪 I’m Irish.

Heart on my sleeve, fire in my soul, and usually an opinion ready to go.

Quick to laugh, sometimes quicker to speak, fiercely loyal to the people I love, and always proud of where I come from.

🫖 The Kettle Spoke for Itself

In many Irish homes, putting the kettle on was part of the rhythm of everyday life.

It marked a break from work, welcomed an unexpected visitor, or brought everyone back to the table for a few minutes of tea and conversation.

No fuss was needed. The sound of the kettle was often invitation enough.

🏡 If you could live in a cottage anywhere in Ireland, where would it be?

On the Donegal coast, in the hills of Kerry, somewhere in Connemara, or tucked beside a quiet village?

There are plenty of places that would be hard to leave.

🇮🇪 Erin Go Bragh

Often translated as “Ireland forever,” the phrase has travelled far beyond Ireland itself.
It has appeared in songs, family traditions and Irish communities around the world, becoming a simple expression of pride, belonging and connection.

Its spelling has varied over time, but the sentiment remains familiar: Ireland carried in the heart, wherever life leads.

🇮🇪 If you’re Irish, it doesn’t matter where you go, you’ll find family.
Sometimes it is in a familiar accent, a shared story, or a laugh that feels instantly known.

For generations, Irish people carried that sense of belonging across oceans and borders. Distance changed the map, but not always the connection.
