About Me by my client :)

β€˜β€™Dariusz doesn't like being called an audio genius: it makes him a bit cross and grumpy. The way he sees it, he's just an engineer dedicated to producing the best possible sound from a variety of components – electronics, speakers, turntables, wires and anything else that features in the audio chain. Whatever.I first became aware of Dariusz at a high-end audio show several years ago. In the main room, a megabuck English brand was producing overwhelming levels of sound. I fled to a nearby room, small, where a modest system was playing music. At its heart was a modified Linn LP12, distinguished by its polished, silver-gleaming platter. I asked about it and was told that a β€œPolish guy” named Dariusz was responsible. Having had all the Linn mods plus a few others – including the outstanding Pink Triangle power supply and motor mod in the early 1990s – on my LP12 over a twenty-year period, I decided to take a punt and see what difference Dariusz's work would make. The result was not so much an upgrade as a transformation. Next up was an American valve/tube phono stage that retailed for several thousand dollars but which had developed a fault that not even a return to the factory could cure. Enter Dariusz, who made the necessary parts himself. The result? A component that has worked its magic ever since. I became intrigued by the possibilities of idler-drive turntables. Dariusz sourced a pristine Garrard 301 and SME 3012, which he mounted on a plinth of his own design. It's a work of art on two levels: visual and sonic. When my designer wife - who generally never looks at my audio β€œtoys” - saw it she was gobsmacked, marvelling at the beauty of the plinth while I marvelled at the sound. There are two main issues that audiophiles consider when buying audio components: sound quality and cost. Sonically, Dariusz's work is beyond reproach. In terms of value for money, it's off the graph. His phono stage is easily worth €2k but he sells it for less than a third of that. His dipole speakers are better than my references that cost Β£10k sterling fifteen years ago and again cost a fraction of that. How does he do it? By charging only the cost of the materials plus a modest amount for his labour while the norm in high-end audio is a retail price six times the combined cost of materials and labour. The one thing he currently lacks is a global reputation of the type that allows high-profile designers to charge tens of thousands for components that actually cost hundreds or a few thousand to manufacture. While I doubt that Dariusz would ever want to go down that road, when – and it's a matter of when, not if – he is β€œdiscovered” by the audio press in the UK and USA, then his costs will probably have to rise substantially to meet demand. So get in early and get yourself some of the best bargains in audio. Except maybe for the dipole speakers: you see, I haven't got my pair yet!’’
