The finished piece tells only part of the story.

Before this pendant was finished, it passed through the hands of our goldsmiths in Kilkenny — gold being cut, drawn down, shaped, soldered, refined and polished, with each stage bringing the piece closer to what it was intended to become.

There is a particular intimacy to making jewellery by hand. The tools may be traditional, but the decisions are deeply personal: where to soften a line, how a surface should catch the light, when a proportion feels right, how the design will translate harmoniously.

These are details that may never be consciously noticed in the finished piece. Yet together, they give it its character.

We are very fortunate to work with our hands every day, to keep traditional goldsmithing skills alive and to create jewellery that will eventually become part of someone else’s story.

This is where the story begins.

For this honey quartz pendant, there was no template to follow. The design had to respond to the stone — its proportions, its colour, the way it holds and reflects light.

The 18ct yellow gold was worked entirely by hand, with each element made specifically for this piece. From the first cut to the final polish, the form is refined through the eye and hand of the goldsmith, rather than simply following a predetermined design.

That is the character of the jewellery made in our studio. Traditional goldsmithing is not simply a technique we preserve; it is part of how we design, allowing decisions to be made in the making and giving each piece its own identity.

The finished pendant is the visible result, but the magic lies in the craftsmanship that brings the piece to life.

Jewels Basel offered a rare opportunity to step beyond the traditional boundaries of fine jewellery and engage with a community that values jewellery as an art form in its own right.
Set against the backdrop of Art Basel week, the salon brought together collectors, curators,
journalists and fellow makers from around the world, united by an appreciation for exceptional
craftsmanship, creativity and design.
