I was given this beautiful Sterling Silver Bonbonnière (box for candy/ sweets) to restore. It had no key, was locked and dented.
After opening the box, unhinging the lock, creating a key to fit the pin and the depth of the lock in the box, making a new spring (for the rusted one in the lock), removing the dents and polishing, it turned out to be beautifully gold plated.
My friend and silver expert Frank Hesslesohn of , St Louis, Missouri, told me the mark on the lock could only be an assembly mark and not a hallmark. There is a similar mark under the box next to one of the legs. The box, he says, is probably Austrian.
I have relocated my enamel and restoration workshop from Johannesburg to this city of Gold, Jerusalem, at 12 Derech Hevron The Jerusalem House of Quality בית אות המוצר הירושלמי
