Choose your Pillow....

The Cushion Brilliant has many versions of cutting styles and none of them disappoint.

Whether you opt for a modern adaptation of the Cushion Brilliant (the bigger stone) or the Antique version (the smaller stone), they're both absolutely amazing.
The modern one will just sparkle more as opposed to the Antique who will play with light and shadow.

The Cushion Modified Brilliant is used in both colorless diamonds and Fancy Color diamonds but for different reasons.

In colorless diamonds, they mask the "Bowtie" effect which is a "Must" in antique diamonds.

In Fancy color, it is used to enhance the color concentration in the center of the stone.

The Velvet Spinel......

What causes this in Spinels?
Well it is usually caused by Microscopic inclusions that scatters the light, typically Rutile needles that are called "Silk"

Just like the Kashmir Sapphire's very sought after Velvet, it gives the stone a Soft Glow and a dreamy visual texture.

This 5ct Tanzanian Spinel is a perfect example of this Dreamy Soft Glowing Texture

When the "Silk" concentration is high and built in an intersecting pattern, you get Chatoyancy or Asterism (star effect or Cat's Eye effect).

Imperfectly Perfect.....

Antique diamonds, cut several centuries ago, show undeniable craftsmanship.
Since the bruting machine was only invented in 1874, the cutters concentrated on the faceting and not on the shape.
They used to apply the facets taking the natural shape of the rough as the final outcome.

In this example, the rough was shaped in between oval and pear.
Such a unique and elegant shape, another testament to the cutter's professionalism.
