Many women believe that having PCOS means they must be overweight or that weight loss is the only way to manage it. But PCOS can present differently in different women, and body weight alone does not diagnose PCOS.

In adults, diagnosis is generally based on a combination of ovulatory dysfunction/irregular cycles, clinical or biochemical hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology, after excluding other causes.

So, whether a woman is lean, average-weight, or overweight, irregular periods and other symptoms deserve proper medical evaluation.

Know the criteria. Question the myths. Understand PCOS.

PCOS Women Tend to Have Poor Egg Quality?

This is a common misconception. PCOS does not automatically mean poor egg quality.

Women with PCOS may develop multiple follicles, but egg quantity and egg quality are different aspects of fertility. Egg quality cannot be determined simply by a PCOS diagnosis. During IVF, the response to stimulation, fertilisation and embryo development can provide additional clinical information.

In women with PCOS, careful monitoring and an appropriately tailored stimulation protocol can help manage the risk of an excessive ovarian response and support safer IVF treatment.

PCOS may affect ovulation, but it does not mean that the eggs are necessarily of poor quality.
