There is no box. So why think outside it?
walked into the Met in a custom Michael Kors black gown and she paired it with Bulgari pavé necklace, diamonds set in 18k yellow gold.
Not white gold, not platinum but yellow gold
Everyone would expect the diamonds in white gold or platinum. The safe, predictable, obvious choice, the one that follows the rules of color pairing.
She chose two extremes. Pitch black canvas. Diamonds blazing warm in yellow gold. Craving contrast.
The expected? Diamonds in white would be - Predictable.
What she did? Diamonds in yellow gold against pure black. Warm, audacious and unforgettable.
Here’s what this tells me as a jewlery designer, style isn’t built in a mood board. It isn’t created in a studio. It is inbuilt - a frequency you either carry or you don’t.
She absolutely carried it.
That is design and that is intention.
My philosophy? Stop doing what everyone else is doing. Stop thinking in safe pairs. The most stunning thing you can wear or make, is the decision nobody saw coming.
There is no box. There never was.
