:: Tarun Tahiliani’s Artisanal Couture collection for India Couture Week 2021 came in a set of six capsule collections. These capsules, called Chikankari, Pichwai, Rangrez, Cocktail Goddess, Pakeezagi and Bridal, reveal the designer’s vision of the 2021 weddings.

The bridal collection: is a play on traditional, reds, pastels and beiges.

The Pichwai collection: the Indian paintings from Rajasthan, the pichwais, have inspired this line with their monochromatic scenes of the Raasleela and traditional motifs of peacocks and lotuses.

The Chikankari capsule: is reminiscent of the tomb of I'timād-ud-Daulah in Agra, whose latticed carvings and inlay work form the basis of the collection’s motifs.

The blouses: are embellished with mirror jadau work, jaalis or dori, gota patti, pearls, sequins, cut dana and lifted resham flowers, along with embroideries such as aari, Zardozi, dori embroidery.

:: Designers Falguni and Shane Peacock have unveiled Love is, their latest offering at the ongoing second digital India Couture Week 2021. Inspired by the Taj Mahal, the collection reflects innumerable motifs from the monument that have been embellished with Swarovski crystals, pearls, mirrors, sequins and beads. The collection is a riot of colour — some muted like beige, pearl ivory, rose pink and mint green — to vibrant shades like emerald green, royal purple, turquoise, poppy and of course gold and silver. Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor played muse to the designers.

The cuts are traditional yet edgy. Think trailing lehenga, ball gown-style lehengas and fitted-and-flared silhouettes. The entirely collection has been hand-crafted by a cluster of 250 craftsmen from the Falguni and Shane Peacock-adopted villages including Malihati, Islampur, Midnapore, Kharagpur and Marhtala in West Bengal. Heritage jewellery brand ‘Narayan Jewellers’ by Ketan and Jatin Chokshi, partnered with the designers for the show.

Befittingly their fashion film for India Couture Week 2021 was shot at the Taj Mahal itself. This makes the designers the first and only ones in the world to ever mount a show within the precincts of the Taj.

28/08/2021

:: This India Couture Week 2021 collection is once again unapologetically glamorous. Oasis, Shantnu & Nikhil’s Ceremonial Couture 2021 collection, has been designed especially for men. Proportioned 70:30, the lineup consists primarily of menswear, with key womenswear silhouettes added on.

There are draped kurtas for men in kaleidoscopic prints on silk which the designers have paired with armour-like bundis and military-inspired short bandhgalas in black. The new Shantnu & Nikhil cowl trousers are an update of the dhoti silhouette. These are best worn with shorter jackets and longer sherwanis. The designers have also introduced a new line of couture safas and stoles.

For women, ball gowns and lehengas fuse creating hybrid styles. Voluminous drapes meet cleverly crafted bodices that are embellished with hand-embroidery and crystals. And of course there are the signature Shantnu & Nikhil crimson lehengas to complete the collection.

The colours are anything from gold to navy, red, blacks, and multicolour couture prints. Contrast linings add a hint of fun to both womenswear and menswear. Look out for the new cityscape-inspired motifs in the ensembles. Suryagarh, Jaisalmer, has played the backdrop for the collection.
