Jewellery Care Series | Part 1 – Gemstone Bead Care ✨

Natural gemstone beads can gradually lose some of their surface lustre over the years. This can happen due to regular wear, exposure to perfumes, cosmetics, sweat, dust, weather, storage conditions, and the natural ageing of the surface.

For many suitable gemstone beads, applying a very thin layer of baby oil once every few years (depending on how often the necklace is worn) can help refresh their appearance, enhance their natural lustre, and reduce the dry look that some beads may develop over time.

A few things to remember:

• Use only a very small amount.
• Allow it to absorb, then gently wipe away any excess.
• If your necklace has a pendant, avoid getting oil on the pendant.
• This method is not suitable for every gemstone. Different gemstones have different properties and require different care.
