A craft can travel far from where it began, yet find a place it calls home.

Meenakari came to India with Persian influences and found a lasting place in Rajasthan during the Mughal period. In the late 16th century, Raja Man Singh of Amber brought skilled meenakars from Lahore to Rajasthan, introducing their craft to the royal courts of Amber.

Over time, Rajasthan gave Meenakari its own character its colours, motifs and techniques becoming part of the region’s visual language. What travelled from Lahore became, over generations, a part of Rajasthan’s own visual language.

Hansli carries two meanings: the bone that runs along the base of the neck and the rigid neck ornament that takes its name from it.

Worn across parts of India, the hansli follows the natural curve of the body, sitting closely along the neck it is shaped around.

It is a reminder that some of the most enduring forms of adornment began not by changing the body, but by understanding it.

A collaboration for the ages

For decades, the Surana family has lived with jewellery. It is both an heirloom and a language that is passed down from one generation to the next.

Sh. Kushalchandji Surana continues to work closely with the current custodians, Saurabh and Chandana Surana, to curate new designs and select gemstones. They also revisit archival drawings from Kushalchandji’s time to explore how they can be respectfully reinterpreted for the present.

Heritage, then, becomes a source of inspiration, carried forward with reverence, memories and, above all, a shared love for jewellery. 🤍

Minimalism at its finest.

This necklace and earring set takes inspiration from the jharokha, the beautiful windows in the palaces of Rajasthan.

The jharokha is expressed through its graceful shape, highlighted with hand-painted blue enamel and framed with diamonds. A Polki sits at the centre, while milky-white pearls soften the composition.
