A recent visit to New York brought the chance to experience the newly opened — the storied French department store, reinterpreted for a new city and a more discerning, design-led shopper.

 debut feels more like a concept store, spotlighting an unexpected flow of playful, well-defined spaces that invite customers to explore and discover — seamlessly blending heritage with modernity. Through the dreamy design by , the department store has transformed into an immersive experience.

Printemps in Paris has the gravitas of a department store that delivers in brand selection, manicured service and, just like the Eiffel Tower, it is its own “grande dame.” New York offers a more curated, conceptual space — a wonderland to wander around, with not necessarily a clear need but a desire for discovery. In a market where most department stores focus on key luxury brands, it is a refreshing curation of indie labels mainly from France. The vintage section is also an interesting bet, paving the way for a more luxurious experience in that offering.

From the iconic Art Nouveau grandeur of Boulevard Haussmann to the sleek Art Deco heart of One Wall Street, Printemps’ New York presence marks a thoughtful adaptation of its architectural language. While subtle nods to Art Deco elements, such as stunning stained glass, pay homage to its heritage, the design prioritizes the needs of today’s shoppers.
