Terracotta literally means ‘baked earth’ and is made from natural clay, giving it a reddish-brown color. It was used traditionally to create figures of deities on festive occasions and ceremonies besides its use in jewelry and handicrafts. Terracotta designs in the form of human and animal figurines were excavated from the archaeological sites of the Indus Valley Civilization in Mohenjo-daro that dates back to 3000-1500 BC. The terracotta jewelry is hand painted in earthy hues – brown, grey, blue, green, pink and red – all adding a rustic touch to each jewellery piece. Conventional and the most popular motifs designed in terracotta jewellery include human figurines, animals or the gods of the tribes. Being non-reactive in nature, Clay and Terracotta jewelry suits all skin types, and does not cause allergies.

Hathphool, literally meaning the flower of the hands is a piece of jewellery that adorns the hands of the wearer. What was once worn only by the royalty has today become a favourite choice of most brides. Also worn by dancers and even casually, this jewellery has found a contemporary look too. Traditionally this was made in gold or silver with kundan or uncut diamonds. Hathphool comprises of eight rings (barring the two thumbs) that the bride wears on both her hands. These are attached to a central flower adornment on the upper part of the hand and subsequently to a beautiful wrist bangle. It consists of a dangling chain which is spread behind both hands.

Hoop earrings were worn by ancient Greeks, Romans, Asians, and Egyptians. What began as a way to identify tribal members turned into symbols of religion and power within societies. The first hoop earrings originated around 2500 B.C.E. in Nubia, an African civilization located in what we now call Sudan. The ear jewelry was created in gold, silver, and bronze. In 1000 B.C.E., tapered hoop earrings spread to other cultures around the world. In 1500 B.C.E., Egyptian men and women both flaunted gorgeous hoops on their ears. They believed earrings enhanced a person's beauty and were made using twisted gold wire and beads. Royal Egyptians wore heavy and thick gold hoops to symbolize their wealth and power. The Mughals created and popularised what is known as chandbalis which were a mix of hoop and danglers. Since then, the hoops have always been a favourite of women.

Types of Jewellery: Pearls are known as one of the oldest known gems to humans. They have been known to be used for adornment as far back as 420BC when a fragment of pearl jewelry was discovered in the sarcophagus of a Persian princess. Pearls were offered as gifts to Chinese royalty as early as 2300 BC, while in ancient Rome, pearl jewellery was seen as the ultimate status symbol. Pearls have been an important jewellery commodity since long when the discovery of pearls in Central and South America in the 15th and 16th century ushered in what was referred to as the Pearl Age. And with growing demand for pearls in Western Europe, where noble and royal ladies wore elaborate pearl necklaces, earrings, pearl bracelets as well as brooches, by the 19th century, demand for pearl jewellery surged so high that oyster supplies began to diminish.

Traditional Indian Jewellery: Jhumka or the jhumki has been a favourite ear ornament among the women in the Indian subcontinent. Some of the ancient temple statues dating back to the Chola dynasty show the women adorned with the jhumkas which makes the jewellery style almost 300BCE old. It was the patronage of Bharatnatyam dancers that brought the jhumkas into the spotlight in contemporary times. The bell-shaped ornament has seen various design styles across the sub-continent with some clear distinction between the North and the South. The Mughals added the karnaphool with the bell shape of the jhumka to give it a new look. Since then, this piece of ear jewellery has seen several variations designed through the ages in different materials.
