“And miles to go before I sleep.” Wandering Whites, one can say, is Gaury Pathare’s journey for self-discovery. Having the habit of collecting stones on her travels to Spiti, Sangla Valley, Dharamshala, Hampi, Masinagudi and Khajjiyar, she was fascinated by their forms and at times, the stories they may have brought with them; but she never knew if she would ever use them. With time, she was also
learning different techniques of craftsmanship, sometimes by purpose and sometimes by the sudden appearance of a person who would take effort to guide her. And just like that, these happy accidents gave birth to an idea - to use stones and metal to create designs. The theme being of fusion – where two totally unrelated objects happen to be in perfect symphony with each other, in spite of not being of the same nature. Much like how two individuals, who have never known each other, come together and feel that they are made for each other. There is also the use of Indian motifs – circular forms making unpredictable patterns, signifying that balance need not always be uniform. Gaury Pathare’s designs, truly, are a reflection of her thoughts and her individuality – the amalgamation of a person who can be immensely caring when she is taking the responsibility of her home, and who can be completely detached as the vagabond in love with the mountains.
