Yellow and blue sapphire cocktail ring.
Little detail: A cocktail ring is a large, bold ring designed to stand out. It typically features an oversized center stone surrounded by smaller stones or intricate metalwork. Unlike subtle everyday rings, cocktail rings are meant to be eye-catching statement pieces, often worn at parties or formal events.
Cocktail rings first became popular in the 1920s in the United States during Prohibition era. Women attending illegal drinking parties (speakeasies) wore extravagant rings to signal independence and rebellion.
The rings were designed to be visible while holding a cocktail glass—hence the name cocktail ring.
This era aligned with the bold, geometric style of Art Deco, which heavily influenced their design.
After Prohibition ended, cocktail rings remained fashionable thanks to the influence of Hollywood stars, increased availability of gemstones and the rise of cocktail culture in high society
Over time, these rings became enduring symbols of luxury, femininity, and sophistication—and they continue to hold that status today as timeless statement pieces in modern fashion.
