L'origine del nome "Dogal" è tanto antico quanto l'aggettivo da cui deriva, "dogale" o "del doge".
È la storia di una famiglia la cui discendenza è saldamente radicata nel remoto passato dell'antica Repubblica di Venezia che si dipana lungo una fine linea di continuità: l'evoluzione della musica. La famiglia Brocco, veneziani di nascita e presenti nella regione Veneto fin dal 1866 con una catena di negozi di musica, agenti di nomi prestigiosi come Bechstein e Steinway e in stretto contatto con gli artisti più famosi nel mondo, data la mancanza delle corde per strumenti ad arco nel mercato decisero di iniziare uno sviluppo della propria produzione nel periodo della 2° guerra mondiale. Le strategie di mercato suggerirono a Luigi Cella, responsabile della divisione di fabbricazione, di formare nel 1950 un'azienda separata che chiamò "Dogal Corde Armoniche", in omaggio alla città di
Venezia e alla collaborazione degli artisti residenti. Fu da qui che Cella incominciò la produzione delle prime corde Dogal per Violino. Con le tradizionali corde in budello come punto di riferimento, il loro obiettivo fu di ottenere un suono brillante e potente senza emissioni metalliche. L'anima in metallo di ogni corda fu coperta con una serie di avvolgimenti, l'ultimo dei quali, un'innovazione per quell'epoca, fu un filo piatto che offriva una superficie liscia al tatto. Il risultato dell'interazione con l'archetto diede un suono dolce e di qualità con un considerevole volume. Era il novembre del 1952 quando la Dogal "Marchio Verde" (green tag) fu introdotta nel mercato, la prima di quella che sarebbe diventata una serie di quattro modelli. Con la naturale evoluzione dei materiali disponibili seguirono il "Marchio Rosso" (red tag) e il "Marchio Blu (blue tag), conosciuto anche come "Concert Line". Nel 1990 la Dogal Corde Armoniche introdusse la sua linea in budello sintetico, realizzata con una particolare anima in multi-fibra simile a Perlon e avvolta esternamente da alluminio o puro argento. Anche se sono passati più di 50 anni dalla fondazione della società, la maggior parte del processo di produzione è ancora fatta a mano, con tolleranze minime sull'intera lunghezza di ogni corda, come solo le eccellenti mani di abili artigiani di corde possono fare. The origin of the name “Dogal” is as ancient
as the adjective from which it derives, “Dogale”,
or “of the Doge”. It is the story of a family whose lineage is firmly rooted in the remote past of the ancient Republic
of Venice which unfolds along a fine line of continuity: the evolution of Music. The ancestors of the present-day Dogal tradition were already well-known in the middle of the last century - the Brocco family, native to Venice and present in the region of Veneto since the 1880s. With a chain of music shops, agents of prestigious brands such as Bechstein and Steinway and in close contact with world famous artists, they considered the lack of availability of bowed instrument strings on the market and decided to begin development
of their own production in the period immediately following the Second World War. Marketing strategies prompted Luigi Cella, manager of the string-making division, to form a separate
company expressly for this purpose in 1950. He named this Dogal Corde Armoniche in homage to the city of Venice, where the company was located. Taking advantage of the proximity of the La Fenice Theatre and its resident artists who offered their collaboration, Cella began the production of the first Dogal violin strings. With traditional gut strings as a point of reference, his objective was to obtain a brilliant, powerful sound without metallic overtones. The steel core of each string was covered by a series of windings, the last of which - a breakthrough at the time - was flat-sectioned, thereby offering a smooth surface to the touch. The resulting interaction with the bowhair gave a sweet, quality sound with considerable volume. It was November 1952 and the Dogal Marchio Verde (green tag) was introduced to the market - the first of what would become a series of four. With the natural evolution of the available materials, the Marchio Rosso (red tag) and the Marchio Blu (blue tag), also known as the Concert Line, soon followed. In 1990 Dogal Corde Armoniche introduced its synthetic gut range, made with a particular multi-fibre core similar to Perlon and external windings of aluminum and pure silver. Even though more than 50 years have passed since the founding of the company, most of the production process is still done by hand, with minimal tolerances over the full length of each string, which only the masterly hands of skilled string makers can achieve.
