The whole Torah, from end to beginning, held inside a heart.

That’s why we dance in circles on Simchat Torah. A circle has no first place and no last place. No one stands at the front, no one is left behind. We hold the Torah, we hold each other, and we go around — again and again — because the story never really ends. It just begins again.

Drive-thru mitzvah.
A city of eight million, and you eat alone. Not for the next seven nights.
Sukkot is the one week we move outside — into a hut with a roof you can see the stars through, walls that move in the wind, and a door that stays open. In a city that means a balcony, a fire escape, a rooftop, a parking space. Or the back of a pickup truck at a red light, in the middle of traffic.
And we hold four kinds: the etrog with taste and scent, the lulav with taste, the hadass with scent, the arava with neither. Four kinds of people. Not one of them counts alone — that’s the whole point.
Wherever you are this week — Brooklyn, Berlin, Tel Aviv — the table is the same table.
