Flower Jem We spread the word about the charm of pearls, focusing mainly on natural blue Akoya pearls.

These bracelets feature 9 mm and 4 mm pearls, along with 2 mm white gold mirror balls.

I’ve been wearing this bracelet design almost every day for over five years now. I’ve been meaning to make it a regular part of Flower Jem’s collection, but somehow I always forget to make more of them.

My own bracelet has 8 mm pearls, but this time I made them with 9 mm pearls.

Since I had the day off today, I drilled enough pearls for seven bracelets and managed to finish five of them.

This is just my personal taste, of course, but I really love the arrangement of the pearls and mirror balls. It’s not flashy, but it has that lovely sparkle you’d expect from fine jewelry. How should I put it? The balance just feels right.

And above all, this clip-style clasp is incredibly easy to use. Its design is also simple and beautiful. To me, it strikes a wonderful balance between appearance and functionality.

I’ve heard from so many people who love pearls but find bracelets difficult to put on and take off. I’ve tried all kinds of clasps over the years, and I still haven’t found anything better than this one.

No matter how beautiful a bracelet is, if it’s difficult to put on and take off, you can’t fully enjoy wearing it.

That’s right. Just like how, no matter how much you want to visit a place, you can’t go there if you don’t have the time.

Wait… that’s not quite the same thing, is it?

Anyway, I’ll get these bracelets properly organized and listed for sale soon.

Tonight, I just wanted to show them to you, so I threw together a rather rough edit and posted it.

But you know what? I think my favorite might still be my own bracelet, the one that’s been by my side all these years.

The weather was beautiful today, so I took some photos of a 9 mm Akoya Natural Blue Baroque Pearl Necklace.

The sun and pearls really do seem to be a perfect match.

Clear Blue had been sleeping in my safe for quite some time, but today it looked as though it was happily soaking up the sunshine, full of energy!

I resized the Mederu – 愛でる Ring.

Finally, I received an order! It took about two and a half years.

A senior from my university is someone who travels around the world organizing events to promote Japanese sake. She once placed a custom order for this ring.

“Chunky rings like this are popular in New York. You should make more of them!”

So, following her advice, I made several rings in this style.

More than two and a half years have passed since then, and now I’ve finally received an order!

However, the customer requested a different size, so I woke up early this morning to resize the ring.

I think I’ll continue listing a few more rings in this style from time to time.

These earrings feature natural blue baroque Akoya pearls.

They are extremely baroque, but don’t they look a little like thumbs-up gestures? They also remind me of quarter notes in music.

And their very deep color—somewhere between blue and dark green—is quite fascinating.

These earrings are nothing but playful!

However, from the pearl farm’s perspective, these pearls were cultivated with great care, using the same serious nucleation process as any other pearls. A certain number of pearls simply turn out like this.

Perhaps this is the Akoya oyster’s way of rebelling, saying, “I’m not going to be round, and you can’t make me!”

I hope I can keep that same rebellious spirit and stay young at heart, too.

These earrings will be available on Etsy and the Flower Jem website.

These are Akoya pearl earrings.

I made a pink three-pearl chain and thought, “Now I’ll hang it from the earring fitting,” only to realize that I didn’t actually have the fitting on hand. So instead, I decided to hook the chain onto a stud earring. Then, on a whim, I chose a blue baroque pearl.

There is something very distinctive about this combination of blue and pink. It doesn’t feel old, but it doesn’t feel new either. It seemed to carry the scent of childhood, or of a time long ago.

As I let my thoughts wander, I suddenly felt that it resembled the atmosphere of after school in my student days. Class had ended, the classroom was quiet, and from outside I could hear the distant voices of students busy with their club activities.

After school sometimes brought the kind of heart-racing little incidents that seem unique to youth. Even if you hoped for something like that, those days were rare. Still, there was always that special feeling in the air, as if something might happen.

Should I just go straight home, or should I linger and chat aimlessly with friends? It was that kind of soft, drifting time.

So, I decided to name these earrings After School.

Coming up with names is getting harder and harder, but I really like this one.

These are the seven pairs of earrings I made today.

Marshmallow, Night Sky, Dawn, Sun-Dried, Pudding, Sun’s Up… Wait, what? I only made six pairs!

I plan to list them on my website little by little over the coming days.

Meanwhile, my neighbor, who has finished practicing his saxophone, has continued sending me messages, and we’ve been chatting while I work.

Neighbor: “Once I get better, I’ll put on a live concert from this apartment building.”

Me: “I’ll join you on guitar!”

Neighbor: “The police might show up! Haha.”

Me: “Then let’s keep playing until they arrive.”

Neighbor: “I think there’s a drummer living on the first floor.”

Me: “You should definitely get in touch with him!”

Neighbor: “But he looks a little suspicious.”

Me: “I’ll leave that decision to you.”

It’s just a silly little exchange of messages, but basically, he was apologizing to me for making so much noise.

Personally, I feel more comfortable when everyone is making noise.

When my surroundings are too quiet, my imagination starts running wild, and I have a hard time keeping it under control.

And that can be quite troublesome for me.

Today is a national holiday in Japan, so I’m spending the day working with pearls in Kobe.

Yesterday, I made several bracelets, and today I made seven pairs of earrings. A few days ago, I put together several pairs of pearls for a customer. Today, I selected seven of those pairs and turned them into earrings.

I started at 9 a.m. and finished making the earrings around noon. At 2 p.m., I began filming each pair and taking photos for the product listings. I finally finished a little after 4 p.m.

Just then, I heard a loud sound coming from my neighbor’s apartment. It sounded like an organ.

A moment later, I received a message from my neighbor on my phone.

“Am I disturbing you? I’m practicing my electronic saxophone right now.”

I replied, “Please feel free to turn the volume all the way up! And I’d like to request some Kenny G!”

Then the saxophone got even louder, and I burst out laughing.

Judging by the parking lot, it seems that none of the other residents are home.

I absolutely love this kind of open and relaxed environment.

I lined up the two bracelets and one necklace I recently made to compare them. Some differences become much more obvious when you see them side by side.

It reminds me of how you can think you’re the best in your hometown, only to be completely defeated when you enter a slightly bigger tournament.

Yes, I was on the tennis team at a junior high school in the countryside. I was overwhelmingly strong within my own team. In particular, nobody ever returned my first serve. Of course, the fact that more than 70% of those serves were faults probably had a lot to do with that. I used to hit the ball so high that I had to jump to reach it.

But when I entered a slightly bigger tournament, I was just another nobody.

Anyway, comparing pearls carefully is extremely important. Ideally, you should visit a physical jewelry store and examine different pearls side by side. Differences in luster and nacre thickness become much easier to appreciate through comparison.

But when it comes to us humans, I hope we can avoid comparing ourselves with one another and instead respect each person’s individuality.

Offbeat — Akoya Pearl Bracelet

This bracelet is made with highly lustrous, natural-color Akoya pearls.

The pearls range from 5.5 to 6.3 mm, arranged in something that resembles a graduation, but not quite. And because the drill holes are slightly off-center, the bracelet itself is a little crooked. If you look closely, you’ll also notice a golden pearl that has somehow joined the otherwise white pearls.

When you’re constantly told, “This is how things are supposed to be done,” “That’s unacceptable,” or “Behave yourself,” don’t you sometimes feel the urge to resist?

“What are you talking about? You’re not a child anymore. Grow up!”

You’re absolutely right.

As a rule, I obey the law, respect morality, and follow social conventions. I’m especially careful to stop for pedestrians waiting to cross the road, even when they’re still a few meters away from the crosswalk.

Of course, sometimes the driver behind me honks, telling me to hurry up.

But I don’t mind. Compared with getting caught by a police officer and receiving a traffic ticket, that honking is nothing more than a dog barking in the distance.

Anyway, this bracelet is unconventional in several ways.

The pearls are beautiful and highly lustrous, but they simply refuse to line up properly. They remind me of a student who gets excellent grades but still insists on rebelling against the teacher.

What kind of student were you?

This is an Akoya pearl bracelet.

This bracelet was originally made over a year ago. However, I suddenly needed a clasp for another piece, so I removed its clasp and left the bracelet unfinished ever since. Now, after all this time, it has finally received a new clasp and is complete once again.

This bracelet is very photogenic, but the pearls themselves are of relatively low quality.

The nacre contains a certain amount of impurities, giving the pearls a slightly cloudy appearance, almost with a creamy tint. Although there are no noticeable blemishes, the surfaces are not perfectly smooth and have a slightly rough texture. The luster is also somewhat muted and hazy.

To put it positively, they remind me of a bright, overcast sky.

Because of these characteristics, I think this bracelet would be very suitable for everyday wear. It has an almost vintage feel, although the funny thing is that it isn’t vintage at all.

I’ve said quite a lot of negative things about these pearls, but that’s precisely because they look so good in photographs. I feel it’s important to give them a fair and accurate assessment. I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to get the wrong impression.

Perhaps this would make a lovely gift for a little girl, or a nice choice for someone’s very first Akoya pearl bracelet.

Its soft, hazy luster might even offer a little touch of gentleness in our rather harsh society, where everything seems to revolve around efficiency and rationalization.

Well, perhaps I’m making it sound a little more poetic than it really is.

Anyway, it’s a cute little bracelet.
