With apparel created as a canvas to complete the story, AMBUSH® evolved into designing unisex collections. The brand made its Paris debut in 2015 with VERBAL & YOON being named to Business of Fashion’s Top 500 People influencing the global fashion industry in 2015 and 2016. AMBUSH®’s uniquely crafted parts form an idiosyncratic style that led to commissions and collaborations with an illustrious list that includes Louis Vuitton (Kim Jones), Maison Kitsuné, sacai, and UNDERCOVER. AMBUSH® opened its first flagship store on September 2nd 2016 in Tokyo, a space which encapsulates the brand’s ethos in a creative environment under one roof with the design studio.

Some places don’t feel like they belong to Earth, and with this list our purpose was to highlight those that are reachable to us, humans. With extremes of color, texture, and atmosphere that can make you feel like you are not on the same planet. Ranging from eternal burning craters in the middle of the desert to lakes that look like they were taken from a po***ck painting, these locations exist at the edges of what feels possible.

Inside City of God

Released in 2002 and directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, City of God (Cidade de Deus) is one of the most influential films to come out of Brazil in the 21st century.

Based on the semi fictionalized novel by Paulo Lins, the film follows the rise of organized crime inside the Cidade de Deus housing complex in Rio de Janeiro from the late 1960s through the 1980s. Told through the perspective of Rocket, an aspiring photographer trying to avoid the violence surrounding him, the film traces how poverty, abandonment, and systemic inequality shaped generations of young people growing up inside the favela.

At its center, though, the film is really about youth. Children grow into gang members almost automatically, violence becomes normalized early, and survival often replaces the idea of a future. Characters like Li’l Zé embody how cycles of violence reproduce themselves within environments shaped by neglect and inequality. But the film also focuses on people trying to escape those systems, through photography, work, friendship, or simply staying alive long enough to imagine another life.
