WARIDI EARRINGS

Waridi —> Swahili for rose.

This piece was drawn from the stem, not the flower. A meditative talisman of protection inspired by what holds the rose up. The unseen, thorned and quietly strong.

We invite you to see yourself as the rose. Not just the bloom that everyone admires, but the whole of it. The stem. The thorns. The roots reaching downward even as you grow upward.

To stop and smell the roses, for us, means to pause and truly see yourself.

A look back at WAKIO’s second photo story.

WAKIO: DADANGU MPENZI
(2023)

Here we were playing with sisterhood and sexuality, leaving the question beautifully open.

Are they sisters? Are they lovers? Are they friends?
Does it matter?

As a queer-led brand, exploring themes of sexuality in nuanced, tender ways will always be part of how we tell stories. The narratives of minorities will always have a front seat here, not as a statement, but as a truth we simply refuse to hide.

We believe every story deserves to be seen and heard with respect. None bigger or smaller than the other. Equal.

A look back at our very first WAKIO photo story.

WAKIO: BINTI NYUMBANI
(2022)

We were pulled to highlight the Swahili culture I grew up in and around, drawing inspiration from the women who shaped me, in quiet awe of their beauty and the weight of who they were and still are.

Here we played with the idea of interweaving cultures. The Sahani Earrings -> named after the Swahili word for plate

Introducing the NEW Malkia Silhouette, featuring a ‘head piece’.

To us, the potency of the symbols we use, need neutrality, balance. Symbols in themselves can be too powerful energetically, hence a circle (head) on top to channel completion and neutrality.

The symbol is an ancient one representing a Tripple Moon Goddess. Divine feminine energy, both within and outside. Balancing emotions, feelings, beauty, femininity.
