🚨 Important Update (2026) — The Government of Sri Lanka has approved major changes to SIM card registration regulations under the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act. These changes aim to strengthen national security, improve telecom records, and ensure accurate user identification for all mobile connections.

Here’s what you must know: 👇

✅ 1. Re-registration of Older SIM Cards

🔹 All SIM cards issued before 2 August 2019 now need to be re-registered with up-to-date subscriber information.
🔹 Previously, only SIMs issued after that date had complete registration records — now even older connections must be brought up to standard.
📌 This helps telcos and authorities keep accurate user data for security, legal and policing needs.

👶 2. New Rules for Youth & Visitors

🔹 The updated framework introduces provisions for 16–17 year-olds registering SIMs.
🔹 It also includes clearer guidelines on issuing SIM cards to foreign visitors to Sri Lanka.
📌 This ensures that all active connections, local or temporary, are documented correctly.

📱 3. Why This Matters

✔ Improved national security and criminal tracking
✔ Reduced fraud and misuse of anonymous or unregistered numbers

👤 How to check: Simply dial #132 # on your mobile phone to view your SIM registration and ownership details — this shows whether the number is registered under your name and NIC. If you see any discrepancies or unknown connections, contact your service provider to update or cancel them.
📍 Follow updates from your mobile operator (Dialog, Mobitel, Airtel, etc.) for the official re-registration schedule.
📱 If you have an older SIM (issued before 2019), prepare to verify or update your details when asked.

The Sun has released one of the strongest solar storms in more than 20 years, confirmed by NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.

🌞 What happened?
• On January 18, a powerful X-class solar flare exploded from the Sun
• It sent a massive cloud of charged particles (CME) straight toward Earth
• NOAA has declared a Severe S4 Solar Radiation Storm — a level seen only rarely
• A G4 geomagnetic storm is also active, which can trigger strong auroras

🌍 What does this mean for us?
• Northern & Southern Lights may be visible far beyond polar regions
• Possible minor effects on satellites, GPS, and radio signals
• No danger to people on the ground

Seconds before the crash on the Horana–Panadura Road, reckless riding was cheered like a show.
Seconds later—metal, screams, silence.
A teenager lost his life.

He owned a bike—but no license.
Freedom—but no responsibility.
Confidence—but no control.
Speed--but no discipline

This tragedy did not start on the road.
It started at home.

When parents look away, excuse bad behavior, or allow children to roam without supervision, neglecting to discipline and guide them, or teach them social responsibility, the consequences don’t come quietly. They come with sirens, blood, and funerals.

The child doesn’t grow into “freedom”.
They grow into a risk to themselves and to society.

The only relief is that no innocent road user was killed this time.
Next time, it may be a mother, a child, or an entire family on their way home.

Legendary video game developer Vince Zampella, co-creator of the world-famous Call of Duty franchise, has tragically died in a car accident at the age of 55.

🛣️ The fatal crash occurred on Angeles Crest Highway near Los Angeles, California, when the vehicle — a Ferrari 296 GTS — veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and caught fire. Reports say both Zampella and a passenger lost their lives in the collision.

🎮 Vince Zampella was a pioneer in modern gaming:
• Co-Founded Infinity Ward and helped create Call of Duty, one of the most successful game franchises in history.

• Later co-founded Respawn Entertainment, behind hits like Titanfall, Apex Legends, and the Star Wars Jedi series.

According to information shared online, the student involved are highly talented and deserving, with records of notable achievements. It is also being highlighted that Chanithma Sinaly has secured a significant number of victories during 2023 and 2024, which has led many to believe she was eligible for the award in question.

Reports indicate that the award was presented to another student due to attendance issues at a rehearsal, a decision that has since sparked public debate. While schools are entitled to follow their internal procedures, many observers are questioning whether academic and sporting merit should be outweighed by procedural factors, especially when valid academic commitments are involved.
