Ocean Treasure PV

Ocean Treasure PV Authentic sea glass, picked by hand, cleaned, sorted, left in its natural tumbled state!

History of sea glass

Little known facts about sea glass is that glass (from all kinds of bottles, vases, jars, etc.) has been tumbled and ground, by the ocean, until the sharp edges are smoothed and rounded. It takes 20-40 years, sometimes 100-200 years (ref.Wikipedia) to acquire its characteristic texture and shape. We have found all of our pieces; on display here, right in Puerto Vallarta in th

e Bay of Banderas. The ocean creates a work of art and we just enhance it a bit by designing jewelry pieces out of the sea glass we find!

Some cool facts about sea glass, when you shine a black light on Yellow Sea glass, it will change color to orange and a bit of purple, this means there was manganese used in creating whatever this piece belonged to.

‘Manganese (Mn) is one of the oldest glass additives and was used to colorize glass as far back as Ancient Egypt. Manganese produces glass in a range of colors from violet and green to yellow and orange. Reddish orange manganese glass is sometimes called “persimmon glass.” Manganese Dioxide (MnO2) was also used to decolorize glass containing iron impurities, or to stabilize the color of glass so it wouldn’t shift over time. Glass that contains manganese glows green, red, orange, or peach under black light. ‘
