Freshwater Pearls or Seawater Pearls? It’s Easier to Tell Than You Think!
Every pearl has its own color, shape, luster, and character. Here is a simple guide:
Freshwater Pearls:
1. Traditional Freshwater Pearls
Available in white, cream, pink, peach, orange-pink, and light lavender. They come in many shapes, from round and oval to drop and baroque.
2. Edison Pearls
Large, bead-nucleated freshwater pearls known for their rounder shapes and richer colors, including white, pink, peach, orange, and purple.
3. Freshwater Baroque Pearls
Naturally irregular and artistic. Each pearl is unique, with colors ranging from white and cream to pink, peach, and lavender.
4. Freshwater Keshi Pearls
Small, irregular pearls with rich nacre and lively luster—perfect for jewelry with a natural, organic feel.
A gentle reminder:
Natural freshwater pearls are usually white or warm-toned. Black, dark grey, blue, green, or unusually vivid colors may have been treated.
Seawater Pearls:
1. Akoya Pearls
Classic, round pearls with bright luster. Common colors include white, creamy white, and silver-white, often with soft pink or silver overtones.
2. White South Sea Pearls
Large and luxurious, usually found in white, silver-white, cream, and champagne tones.
3. Golden South Sea Pearls
Available in light gold, champagne gold, yellow, and deep gold. Richer, more even golden tones are generally more highly prized.
4. Tahitian Pearls
Known for silver-grey, deep grey, black-grey, and brown shades, often with peacock green, blue, purple, or copper overtones.
At TruLove Jewelry, we believe every pearl has its own color—just as every woman has a color that belongs uniquely to her.
