Both of these bracelets were sold as jade.

At first glance, neither immediately stood out as problematic. One looked convincing until closer inspection revealed artificial colour concentration and a lighter-than-expected feel. It turned out to be dyed quartz. The second showed colour banding more typical of polycrystalline quartz than jade.

This is what makes jade difficult for many buyers.

Most people never get the opportunity to compare materials side by side, and without that comparison, many pieces can appear convincing for a very long time.

Appearance alone is rarely enough.

This custom ring was designed with one clear objective: it had to stack properly with other rings.

To achieve that, we carefully considered the proportions, height, and structure before finalising the piece.

The result is a natural Spessartine Garnet ring designed for both balance and wearability.

During a recent visit to a jade shop in China, I was shown a range of materials, all described as jade.

However, these included dyed quartz, glass and chalcedony , materials that are often misrepresented.

This is why proper assessment and verification are important when dealing with jade and gemstones.

This custom ring began with a reference.

The goal was not to copy the original, but to create a similar piece using carefully selected natural ruby and sapphire.

Each stone was chosen and matched before the ring was made.

This is how custom jewellery is developed — starting from an idea and building it properly.

If you’re thinking about something similar, feel free to reach out.

This custom ring started with selecting the right spinels.

Each gemstone was tested before moving into the design phase, and the final piece was set in 18k gold.

Every step was considered before the next.

This is how custom jewellery is developed — from material to final piece.

If you’re thinking about something similar, feel free to reach out and discuss your idea with us.

This custom ring started with a fixed design, but the real challenge was finding the right imperial green jade.

Not every green stone is suitable. We focused on selecting the right material and making sure it was natural and untreated before moving forward.

Only after testing and confirmation did we proceed with the ring.

This is how custom pieces are developed — starting with the material, not just the design.

If you’re thinking about something similar, feel free to reach out and discuss your idea with us.

I was asked to leave a shop after trying to inspect a piece of ‘jade’ with a loupe.

This is part of what happens when you look more closely at what is being sold.

Not everything is meant to be examined.

These experiences are part of understanding the market properly.
