The Jeweller's Moon

The moon ascends, a perfect pearl,
A gift for all the world to see,
Its silver chain of starlight swirls,
A necklace for the night's decree.

The lanterns, strung like beads of jade,
Are gems against the velvet dark,
A fleeting, fiery masquerade,
Each one a small and precious spark.

And on the table, round and bright,
The mooncakes gleam like polished gold,
A treasure in the gentle light,
A story in each fold retold.

For absent friends, a lonely tear,
A tiny, faceted regret,
Yet in its heart, a memory clear,
A jewel we can never forget.

So let us gaze upon that stone,
That lonely, lovely orb above,
And know we are not quite alone,
But bound by this bright gem of love.
