A customer brought this Daytona to DeChronos for verification.

He told me:

“Simon, I paid RM100,000 for this watch.”

He already knew the diamonds were aftermarket. But he wanted to confirm whether the rose-gold case, movement and clasp were genuine.

I asked, “Have you paid in full?”

“Yes, RM100,000.”

After physical inspection, we discovered:

✅ Genuine Rolex Calibre 4130 movement

❌ Fake case — rose-gold-plated steel, NOT 18K gold

❌ Fake clasp — rose-gold-plated steel

❌ Non-original dial and hands

❌ Aftermarket diamonds and gemstones

A Rolex Daytona From a Friend — Even the Weight Was Fake!

Sometimes, the reason we trust a watch isn't because of how convincing it looks.

It's because of the person selling it — someone we know, someone we trust, perhaps even a close friend.

Today, we're sharing a real verification case involving a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.

The genuine Rolex Daytona Ref. 116519 features an 18K white-gold case.

At first glance, this watch looked convincing.

The dial, case markings, Rolex logos and even the movement engravings appeared impressive.

And there was something else…

The watch actually felt quite heavy in the hand!

For someone unfamiliar with luxury watches, that weight could easily create the impression that it was made of precious metal.

But during physical verification at DeChronos, we discovered something unexpected.

🔍 After separating the rubber strap from the clasp, we found something hidden inside…

IRON INSIDE THE RUBBER STRAP!

Part of the watch's weight came from metal concealed inside the strap.

What initially felt like the weight of a precious-metal watch turned out to be misleading.

Further inspection revealed:

❌ Not a genuine Rolex
❌ Non-genuine Rolex movement
❌ Case not made of 18K white gold
❌ Iron material discovered inside the rubber strap

FINAL VERIFICATION RESULT:

❌ NOT AUTHENTIC — FAILED
